Facing without birds nest ????

$

Using a Mazak T32-2 control, how do you go about facing a part to minimize a birds nest. I use a CNMG insert for roughing, and a VNMP insert for finish. I leave .005 for face off in Z.
Ideally, I would like to face the part using my CNMG and leave about .03 for face off so I can break a chip......... but I'm forced to set my finish for Z in the first line of the program and if I set the finish allowance at .03, it will leave that on shoulders too, which is not a good thing.

Just wondering if there is a way to get around this that I haven't thought of.

Trouble holding bore size ????

I am currently running a 500 piece order of gear blanks. I have a .625-.626 bore that needs to be held. I am drilling the hole with a .578 drill, then boring with a 3/8 boring bar with CMMT insert (not sure if that's right.......... it's the little 80* diamond insert, positive rake). Anyway, I've got this set up using that 3/8 boring bar to rough the bore to within .015 of size, then I come in with another 3/8 solid carbide boring bar with the same insert for finishing. Throughout the day, I am constantly changing offsets on this job, as the bore keeps getting smaller and smaller. How much changes in size would be considered normal ??? I'm shifting my offsets up to .002 to .0025 from my starting point in an 8 hour day. That seems excessive to me, and I can't figure it out. I thought I was having trouble before, because I was just using one boring bar to rough and finish, but now I'm using two and the finishing bar is taking very little stock out and should not be wearing out.

bar feed or sub spindle bar pull

Hi all. I posted before and we were supposed to get out SQT200MSY today, but the truck went unprepared so it will come in monday morning. It is a 1998 with T-Plus control and has a LNS Servo bar loader. My question is what is a better way to feed material with the bar loader, or by pulling stock out with sub then cutting off? I would like to hear some opions and if anyone has a sample program of EIA G-code programming that would be excellent. Thanks for the help, by the way we have had a SQT-200MY for a while that I have been programming in G-code so I have a pretty good understanding of the codes and process of the main, just not of the sub.

Mazatrol Mill programming question

Im doing a Step process. Normally I can make it work but im working with a rotated part (in the wpc). I have found that the normal SQR callout for your material won't work if the program points aren't already rotated.

I got points from the computer and imput the profile into mazatrol with a 45* rotation (since that's how these will be machined) It defaults to standard 0* orientation for the material description, so when I put some info there, it tries to rotate that 45* as well (and 45* too far in comparison to my part, which displays perfectly in the graphics)

I was wondering about the ARB callout (arbitrary?) Can I use that to describe my raw stock at a 45, then input my points and have the WPC rotate the entire thing 45* back so my rectangular stock is oriented normally?

The reason Im posting is that I can't seem to get the ARB to work. When I use SQR I put in the coordinates of the opposite corners and then next line starts the shape definition section. With ARB it doesn't transfer to the shape definition area, just continues adding raw shape description lines.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

T32-2 program cycle time estimate ????

Does anyone familiar with the T32-2 control know if there is a cycle time estimate somewhere ??? It either doesn't have it, or I'm not looking in the right place. The Okuma LB15 that I worked around several years ago would estimate the cycle time for you and while the program was running, would show you how much time you have left to finish.

I was thinking that while estimating jobs, it might be handy to go back there and program the part and see what the cycle time would be.

I just keep coming up with dumb questions. :)

I just bought a mazak!

Well, I made the plung. I just sold a fanuc controlled lathe and bought a 1997 Mazak QT20HP. The owner said that it has a hydraulic leak around the quill on the tailstock though. Have any of you replaced that seal before? Is it easy? Other than that, he assured me that it was in good running order. The turret index motor and coupler shaft are brand new, along with the through turret coolant seal. I bought this lathe without inspecting it personally. I know I'll get some crap from some of you for doing that but I'm a gambling man! Is there anything else that I should look at or that is a constant mantanance issue?

Thanks much

218 chucking not selected???????

We got our sqt200-msy delivered and set monday. It has t-plus control. I ran a job yestersay using the 16c dead length collet nose, went fine. Today i had to put the chuck on, and i went to the machine page, chuck soft key, then main sp. Chk-ext. Soft key and hit the chuck pedal. Thats when i get the 218 chucking not selected alarm. The chuck will turn on, but the alarm remains. We have another sqt-200my with fusion control and thats the process on the fusion control. Not sure if there is a parameter or something that i need to change? I am running eia program. Thanks for any advice.

I've stuffed wooden dowels with tape wrapped around them in the coolant holes that are under the turret. (I call this the water fall)

I'd like to know the size of these holes & anyone’s suggestion of a better way to plug off the holes? Thanks

Mazak Multiplex 620 warm up program?

$

Hey all, my shop has two Multiplex 620's that we run small parts on (about 66mm long finished), I've been wanting to run a warm-up program for a while now, because the parts are so small, I want to make sure that lubrication covers the ways and we get more of an even wear accross the length of the ballscrews and such. So, that being said, I have almost zero programming experience, but am trying to wet my feet a little bit here, and figured a warm-up program is a good way to start. I've worked with Mazaks before as an operator, so I am somewhat familiar with the mazatrol language, and know a little about G-code also, but don't know which would be better to program the warm-up in. Any help you guys can give to a pretty green programmer would be greatly appreciated!;) Thanks in advance!

how to define tools to cut both directions in z

i am using a knurling tool on a qt nexus350m. the problem i have is i would like to feed the tool toward the chuck on first pass and reverse direction on second pass so the knurl feeds back over itself. i cant figure out how to define the tool in tool data to allow it to feed z- and z+.. when i try i get a reverse contour alarm. i am new to mazak, this would not be a problem in g-code on my falcon lathe. i would like to write this program in mazatrol instead.

CHMF IN insanity (M32 control)

These chamfering processes are driving me nuts!

I have a small 3/16 chamfer cutter (45*) that I have described as a chamfer cutter with a .19 diameter.

Im doing 2 ops to an aluminum part in the vise and want to chamfer the outside profile and some slots that go through the part.

On side one-

For the profile Chmf OUT works perfectly! Sweet!
For the slots (for bolts im sure) I used CHMF LEFT and while it did run, it overcut a the start point. Almost like it was on the wrong side of the line before it started the comp move.

Side two
For the profile, CHMF OUT works perfectly! Sweet!
For the slots, i can't get it to run at all. I get an illegal radius alarm with both IN and LEFT processes.

I took all my numbers from a cad drawing. I flipped the drawing over and moved the zero point and took all my new dimensions (for side 2) from the new zero. I have double and triple checked my cad numbers as well as what I typed into mazatrol and the numbers all match up.

WTF?!?!

Any ideas?

Chuck open/close switch

After years of looking at this thing not properly aligned, I tried to remove the switch to get to the nut that holds the switch to loosen it but can't get the switch apart.

The white plastic U clip shown in the pic is removed but the body won't release. Before I break the stupid thing is there any thing else holding it?

I know I'm being anal but that's just the way I am.:D

1995 Mazak SQT15 MS Sub-Spindle Cylinder Removal Questions

$

I am hearing some minor noise in my sub-spindle and it sounds like it is coming from the draw tube cylinder. I removed all the covers to try to isolate the noise. I am looking for any tips for dis-assembly. Can it be removed entirely from the back or do I have to remove the draw tube from the front and the cylinder from the back? Any suggestions for where to send it for rebuilding? I found Worldwide Chuck Services in a Google search but I have never worked with them.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Sqt200-msy lns loading problem

$

Hi we have a 1998 sqt-200msy with t-plus controls. Lns quick load servo i think the machine has bar feeder interface installed. I am running parts and to feed i am pulling with sub-spindle. The bar feeder is counting parts and knows when it is out of material. When the count on bar feeder hits zero the channel comes up and gets a new bar to load. I am not able to get the machine to realize it is out of material and let the bar feeder load. I am currently stopping machine and manually opening chuck, the bar feeder the loads bar and puts it to length to start machining. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

257 "illegal m code " prevents milling while synchronised?

qt 250 - II msy

matrix contol

im trying to mill a 15 inch long part with the chucks synchronised. i copy in the exact Transfer BAR and head sync units that i use all the time to part off with, but when i try to Mill instead of turn while holding the part at both ends, i get "257 Illegal M code"? THERE IS NO M CODE!!! (sorry im pulling my hair out haha) . Actually , it starts the Circle Mill unit after the Head SYNC, then it alarms out, and the only M code in there is M8 coolant on. thats it.

so is it because im trying to mill? surely its possible and im just missing something.

i m doing a cash job for my boss , and i really didnt want to F this up, but it had to be done today and i am STUMPED! :bawling:

one year exp, mostly self taught BTW.
