Mazatrol G Code Question

Hi Mazakers,
I've attached a sample program I've written to test out M and G codes (I use millimeters). I'm not sure how G codes are supposed to work on Mazatrol but it seems to me that there is something wrong going on. According to my understanding, G0 Z-10 should move the turret 10mm in the home direction on the z axis from the program zero (as determined with the z-offset), and G0 Z0 should take the tool nose back to the program zero on the z axis. However, G0 Z-10 is moving the turret to the Z 159.798 position as seen in the photo. It doesn't seem like a inch-mm conversion thing. Is it ignoring the z-offset and calculating the numbers in cm instead of mm? Any suggestions or guidance? Thanks in advance.

Mazak QT350 #9 error

Hey all-
I'm struggling with a drive replacement. I'm unable to reset absolute position on the turret and tail-stock after replacing a drive. The replacement OEM drive that came first gave me 21-System error & 9-Absolute position malfunction codes after installing it. I found the new drive had the slave/master dials set differently than the original unit so I corrected those and cleared the 21-system error but I am unable to set the turret and tail-stock absolute position via the procedure in the Mazak manual. (machine menu 1>maintenance 1>Turret unclamp> turret/tail INI. set) The procedure calls for the turret unclamp function first but its unresponsive, as are the rest of the options despite holding the MF1 & MF2 keys.

I'm on the 2nd shift at a manufacturing plant in WA state (PST) with both Mitsubishi and Mazak closed for the evening so any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Strange axis problem MP620 T32-6

Hi,
I have a really strange axis problem that started on X-axis head1.
The parts did start to get smaller and smaller but if I reboot machine it was back to normal size.
I switched the drives that controls both X & Z between head 1 and head 2, the problem remained on head 1.
I switched X-axis ballscreew-encoders between head 1 and head 2 and problem did go away and have not come back in a year.
Now the same thing started on Z-axis on head 1.
After program finished it stops on Z5.000 (mm) on the display everytime but after a few cycles part is getting shorter and shorter, if I restart machine display says a lower number like 3.842 and I can run it again and part is getting the correct length.
In my head the cant be a mechanicle problem since it helps to restart machine.

Both X and Z-axis on head 1 has really bad ballscrew support bearings that is screeming can these vibrations disturb the encoder in some way?
I have the bearings so I will replace them today anyway :)

1986 QT-10N Tool Setter Beep

I've got a 1986 QT-10N, 20 HP, 12 position turret with the tailbody (universal). When the tool setter extends on the tool measure command, it does not beep. it also does not enter a value when you touch off on it.

A little background on the machine, I bought it with a dead battery and dubious parameters. I replaced the battery and at that time, the tool setter beeped when it would extend.

I now have a clean set of parameters in the machine that came direct from Japan, with my serial number on the sheet (so I'm reasonably confident in them). Is it possible that one of the parameters pertaining to the tool eye is incorrect?

Aside from the tool setter business, I'm also seeing that parameters M28-M31 cannot be set to 0 (as the parameter sheet shows they should be). I can set them to any other number but 0, actually. When I enter 0, I get a blue "insufficient data" error in the corner of the screen.

I posted my parameters for reference to the question but also in case someone else needs them on the forum, I'd have loved to come across these with just a search.

It just occurred to me as I'm writing this that I may not be getting voltage to the tool eye. The LED never has lit, I pulled it today and did not get continuity across the two pins on the plug (like one of the switches was open). When I opened the top of the unit to expose the LED, I did not get continuity across the LED, nor did it light with external DC power. I bypassed and connected the wires going to the LED and the tool eye showed continuity across the plug pins. Pressing any of the 4 tool buttons would break this continuity, so I figured that was my smoking gun (it never is when you're that sure). I will read voltage coming from the female/machine side of the plug and post up.

Thanks
-Bill

Anyone can do that and how much is the usual asking rate for an inspection? I need to know more than that the axis's run or the spindle turns. I need to know that everything functions accurately and precisely the turret is not too far out of whack, all the sensors are functioning well etc etc.

Mazak Slant 60 tail stock center change.........

I run a 2009 Mazak Slant turn 60 and have a tailcenter question. When changing centers we extend the quill and turn the dial to the position which shows removal pic. Then we retract the quill. Our centers have flats on them and we wrench the off to engage the push pin. Once out, we have to disengage the push pin, and that's the issue. Used to be able to move back by hand, now we ram a tool into the tape and force turn it back. It has gotten more difficult to do this. Are we doing it right? Is there a better way? Did we break something?

Thank you,
Tony in Michigan

HMC System variables

As I have a bit of free time at the moment due to the current world situation I thought I would tidy up how we probe and index our parts on our pallet machines and write a few macros. I have been through the book and also spoken to Mazak but cannot locate the system variable for the pallet index angle.

Control is an M+
Mazak H415 HMC with 15000 spindle
1 degree pallet index table

Going through the book machine coordinates can be called from #5021 through #5024 and workpiece coordinates can be called through #5041 through 5044 depending on what axis you want so if I call #10=#5024(4 axis Machine coordinate) I get a reference alarm. I can only believe this is because there isn't actually a 4 axis as the pallet table is not full 4th. so their must be another variable that shows the index angle but it doesn't seem to show it anywhere.

Does anyone have a full list of the system parameters that might show this?

T32 control - Need pic of machine parameter page 11 (R parameters)

Dear Mazakers,
I need a pic of machine parameter page 11 (R parameters) on the T32 (B) control itself (not the manual) to compare with my own parameters with working quill M codes. I have the R parameters from the electrical manual but not all parameters are filled out and I'm having problems related to these parameters. If it's not too much of a bother, pics of all parameter pages would be even better.
Thanks in advance.

QT-15 / Mazatrol T-2 "spare" M codes

$

Hi Guys,

I have a QT-15 with Mazatrol T-2. I'd like an output that I can turn on and off with an M code.

I'd like to add an air blast nozzle to blow off parts at the end of the program. We gauge threads before removing the parts from the lathe, so if we need to change a threading insert we can just do it and re-run without scrapping the part. But the operator ends having to grab the air chuck, blast the part, manually rotate the spindle, blast part again. It all adds up to real time. I'd like to just have a fixed air nozzle that I can turn on at the end of the program and let it be done automatically. If I had an output I could use a relay and solenoid and be a happy man.

Also / alternatively, is there a way to send anything programatically to the serial ports on the machine? With other machines we have had DPRNT which can write messages to the RS-232 port. Any Mazatrol equivalent or way of doing it with a ISO program? We have the ISO option on the lathe.

Thanks!

Mazak SQT 100 MS Alarm 215

Hello, I hope someone can help me. I get alarm 215, Chuck system malfunction, about every 15-20 minutes when working on SQT 100 MS, the chuck is a Kitigawa B206, the alarm can occur both during operation and when replacing work pieces. When I get the alarm the chuck will only clamp around 30 percent. The draw tube only moves around 3mm instead of 10mm as it should, it's like it is locked and I cannot reset the alarm. Then after around 5-10 minutes it starts working again and I can reset the alarm and run for another 15-20 minutes before I get the alarm again. Has anyone tried something like this before?

Quick Turn 10 T1 Alarm 8 F PARAMETER FAULT

$

I got this alarm a couple weeks ago. Just restarted machine and everything was ok. Thats not working any more. Getting asterisks and random numbers like when the battery goes dead.

Tried the OP 12 reset procedure that I used the last time when the battery went bad. The parameters aren't holding between restarts. Also tried unplugging battery for a while.

It gets more weird. When I set some parameters, others will change with them, like 4 parameters down.
What really scares me is that the program page is blank. No header line. When you try keying in a program, it stays mostly blank.

Battery voltage is good. Power supply voltages are good. I even checked on O'scope to see if there were fluctuations on startup, all voltages started up nicely.

Is it possible the ROM is bad? Or am I not reinitializing the memory correctly?

There was an LX64 board on ebay for $100, so I bought it. It will be a few days before I get it in hand.

Thanks,
Tony

What is involved in removing a spindle cartridge from a SQT 18-MS. 1993 model. What equipment is necessary to make it happen? How much those things weigh?

QT18 no keypad control

Ok brains trust. I have a QT18 that i'm trying to get up and running. I had it to the stage where it only had a couple of errors so was getting close to running. Unfortunately I moved the monitor out to get to the adjustments on the back to align the screen but I think maybe some mice had been there and when I moved it it shorted out on the support. I found some burnt traces on the keypad circuit board which I repaired. I have the lcd's for the speed and feed come on but none of the keypads work. Anyone have any ideas where to start looking. Yes the monitor powers up ok.

I have a Mazak QT250 Smart and I am looking to slow the spindle acceleration and deceleration down so as not to put my power supply under so much of a load. I have been through the manuals and have studied the spindle parameters but nothing is jumping out at me. Can anyone shed some light on how this could be done?

QT15 Lost Motion on X axis (Backlash?)

$

Hey guys, I have a curious issue with the X axis on my QT15. I had some diameters come out a little off so I checked my BL parameters vs a dial and saw interesting results.

- When I mpg from 0-4 thou and then back again on a tenths indicator the dro is ~.0006 off (back at original dial location)
- When I move from 0-4 thou on a tenths indicator one direction only I'm ~.009 off(!)

Not sure what is going on. If I adjust my BL parameters to be something high like 40 tenths and jog at 1x with the hand wheel I get this:

First click BIG jump on the indicator due to high BL parameter, then subsequent clicks motion slows down, dial doesn't read any movement for some mpg steps and if I continue the dial ends up far short of my expected distance based on the DRO/MPG.

I understand that thrust bearings or a bad screw/ballnut would allow backlash to occur when changing direction, but its odd that the axis just fails to move enough distance when adjusting by tenths. Hoping someone else has had a similar experience or that I'm missing something obvious here...

Thanks!

Mazak Tool setter

Hey gang,

I have an H500 that the laser tool setter was replaced. I went thru the Beam Alignment and Calibration procedure with the Renishaw 9000 programs. Then I used the MDI soft keys for Tool Length and Diameter (like the operator would) and it stores the tool offsets incorrectly by roughly .0300 (Z) and .4000 (X) Mazak says I have a wear offset stored somewhere. I cant find it if there is.

I think that when using MDI and it posts the G136 it calls a different sub program than the Renishaw program I used to calibrate the tool laser. But no one I have talked to can confirm that.

Has anyone ever seen this problem?

I'm desperate,

Itt

Got a 1996 SQT18 MS we just moved it into our shop from the previous owner and are in the process of setting it up. The tool eye arm will not extend, and it throws an error 325 TL EYE EXT. IMP.

Searching it just says make sure setup key is ON or door closed, we have tried both of those with no luck.

EDIT: Newbie mistake, homed the X Y totally forgot about B axis...
