Use of Cyber Monitor on Smart Controller + Connection to an external OPC

$

Hi All,

I'm new to the forums here, and am not sure if this has already been discussed.

We have 4 QSM Mazak machines, which have a Mazatrol Smart Controller.

We had the option of adding the Cyber Monitor module.

Our questions are:
1. Is this solution Plug & Play?
2. IF we need to tap this info to an external OPC server (our own) how can we schieve that?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Corrupted Mazak parameters

Learned something (what not to do) new today. One of our operators managed to load a program from a T-32 controller into a T-2 machine. Wow! The parameters were totally hashed. Only by the grace of God did we have a recent hard copy backup and were able to restore. Proves the old saying-"Back up, back up, back up." Next week I am going to check to be sure all of the parameters from all the machines have a current backup. Anyone else ever see this happen?

Multiplex 6100Y Head 2 Program Simulation

I'm working with Multiplex 6100Y for almost 2 years but in head 1 only. They have just repaired and replace some parts in head 2 that's why I can used both head now. I learn the machine by my self and reading the manuals only.

I've tried to make a program with two heads, but if I press auto set for the tooling and feed rate for head 2, an error "408 Tool data not found" is showing in the screen, I checked my tools in head 2 but all data are ok. So I tried to manual press tool 1 and 2 for rouging and finishing tools.

And then I press simulation but I've noticed that while the machine is running in head 2, the position of the tools are same as the position in head 1 even I made the tool set-up properly. While on EDG BAK it is showing that the tool will crashed the part because of wrong orientation or position of the GNL tools, but I reviewed many times my tool data in head 2, and I didn't found what are the problems.

My question is, do the simulation will show the proper orientation of the tools for head 2?

Thank you very much in advance and more power.

Here is my sample program.

How to use HSM?

$

Ok I tried the HSM on my new 530C II today and quickly learned it is G8 P2 to turn on and G8 P0 to turn off. (Not G5P1 and G5P0 ) It Gave me an error. How does it work in using the G41? I am pushing 240 IPM. That is where it alarmed. On Fanuc you just turn it on and off at the beginning and end of a cutter operation. Please help.

Control freezes during sub spindle transfer problem

I am having an intermittent problem with my T32-3 control when transferring a part from the main spindle to the sub. The sub moves to the designated B position, and then the machine just stops. Both spindles are still turning, and no alarm generates, pressing cycle start or feed hold does nothing.

To fix this I press reset, and then "restart" the transfer process, and everything works fine after that. This was happening quite infrequently early this week, maybe once or twice per day, and now it is happening 10+ times per day.

Any suggestions?

Variaxis 500 manual tool change mid program

$

Hi all I am wondering if I can get a little help with what I am trying to do, my current job is using all 40 tool pots in the machine. But T40 is a large tool, because the tool carousel is full up I cant have T40 in the machine as it will hit neighbouring tools and I cant designate it as a large tool as I wont have enough room for the other tools needed. My solution is an obvious one, simply make it a hand load tool.

My program does a tool change to T40 which means the spindle is empty and the tool is on the bench waiting to be loaded. After the tool change I have M19 then M0 to orientate the spindle and stop the machine for a manual tool change.

The problem is when I go from auto mode to manual the spindle loses orientation which is a PITA, meaning I end up having to hit reset then goto MDI do an M19 manually load the tool then goto EIA monitor and search for this part of the program and do a restart2nonmodal to get me back where I was. this means there is no way I can get an operator to run this job as it will simply be beyond their skill set.

Is there something I am missing here, I am sure there must be provision to manually load a tool to the spindle without having to reset the program. I should add that we dont have the interlock key attached to the door so I dont use the setup key (I know turning the setup key means loss of spindle orientation on the matrix control)

any ideas appreciated

Flickering/shadowing screen m2

Hey guys,

The monitors on both my t2 and my m2 have had a little flickering and shadowing going on. A little annoying but I could live with it

Today I went to turn on my mill and the display was all squished and distorted and flicker. I tried playing with the cables and whatnot and got it a tiny bit better (not sure how) but it's still not fully readable.

What options have I got here? Obviously an LCD replacement would be ideal but seems like it's maybe a fair stuff around (or expensive for the replacement kits)...

Cheers,
Trav

Cutting 1-1/4 NPT 11.5 TPI on a Mazak Matrix controller

Hi, I am attempting to cut I.D. pipe threads in steel. I have done very little thread programing. If anyone can forward some experience cutting internal pipe thread I could use it. Engineering has the taper at 1.79 per side. I start with a 1.693 diameter X .241 deep step my threads start at this step bottom. The tapered hole diameter at the .241 depth is 1.521 and the taper stops at 1.456 diameter at 1.044

Changing a door window on QTN - 250

Hello

So i had a t-drill break the other day and it flung a piece of carbide into the door window, spidering the safety glass. Now i have the 500$ replacement in hand, but the mechanical parts list doesn't show an exploded diagram of the door itself, and it isnt all that obvious how it comes apart. So i thought i would ask here if anyone has done this replacement, before i interrupt my parts run and start pulling every bolt out of the door. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Face groove problem

I am trying to figure out how to define this groove:

I am using .039" full rad inserts.

I don't see how I can use any of the stock grooving profiles. I've tried BAR FCE, and CPY FCE (first time trying CPY), and I can't get anything other then gibberish form shape check. Centerpoint of the .047"rad is .016 below the face, and at 6.176" diameter.

This is how I've been trying to define it:

I can see why defining the full rad the way I did causes problems, I'm just not sure how I am supposed to get around it

After I get the groove sorted I can reverse the numbers to make it work on the sub spindle.

Mazak - SQT 10MS Spindle Drive Problem - Alarm 023

$

Hello,

I have (2) Mazak SQT10MS machines.

When I left the shop on Friday, I homed the machine out, turned it down as usual. It ran perfectly fine. Since I was to be gone for the weekend,
I also turned off the circuit breaker to the machine to help protect it from any outside chance of storms, etc. There were no storms in the area.

Arriving back at the shop this morning, I fire the machine up, home it out fine. I normally set the rapid to 20 for a warm up period. I set it to 'auto' to continue
to run the job from last week. The spindle starts to turn, but slowly. I then get a 'red 32' on the screen.

I figured Monday morning blues, turn the machine down and restart. Same exact problem. But, I notice that the spindle load goes up to 115% at any speed.
The spindle spins freely like butter and there is no load.

I checked the FR-SF drive and notice the error code of 023 on the display. When I turn the spindle by hand, there is NO feedback. It does not sense that the spindle is turning on the T32 display. It reads RPM 0.

I had a local guy in and he gave it a quick look. He opened up that end of the machine and thought that maybe there was a loose connection at the amplifier board. But, no luck.

What recommendations do you have next? I have a real hard time believing that something just goes over the weekend. It was not even attached to any power, or working in anyway. Only upon startup this morning. No noises, smells or other.

Hoping that someone out there has some advice on what to check next.

Thanks in advance!
Mike

Parameters: "TRANSFER INFORMATION" window on setup information page

$

I'm not in front of the machine today but I'm wondering if anyone has any idea about why the window for the transfer information is "greyed out" which won't allow any setting of information for transferring parts from one spindle to the other.

Machine is a 1999 Multiplex 6200Y with the 640T Fusion control. I purchased this machine with only Mazatrol but had the dealer add EIA which leads me to believe that some of the parameters are off. When programming in Mazatrol (which I am going to try to learn but don't know at this time) the "TRANSFER INFORMATION" window is usable.

There are a bunch of mazatrol programs that were left in the machine so I can bring one up and look at the setup pages to see what is available but once I try to use one of my EIA programs that window is now unusable.

Could this be a simple parameter?...or some other setup thing I am missing...??

Mazak Multiplex Undercuts...

$

We have have multiple Mazak multiplex 6100(fusion), two multiplex 6200Y(smart), and a handful of SQT200MS(fusion), and I am always having

issues doing undercuts. I know the "BAROUT" and "EDGFCE" have the necking options built in. But I have never been able to truly figure out

what feature they will actually cut. We run a lot of aluminum die castings that are sealed components, and undercuts are regularly used. I

usually end up writing a manual process and getting by, but I was hoping somebody on here would be able to help me out with a "better" way to

make undercuts. I have read the manuals multiple times, and I see the illustrations, but I am still not having much luck. Most of our

undercuts, are .02 with a max with Rad of .01. My tool data appears correct, so I do not think that is the issue. The only "necking" option I

have had success with is the "$4" when doing an "EDGFCE" on a face OD feature.

(almost all OD turning tool are 55° inserts with -5 to -17° leads)

Thanks in advance.

'96 SQT15MS Live tool coupling

Hey All,

I'm in the hunt for some live tooling for a 96 SQT15MS VDI 40, but I've heard Mazak likes a "modified" VDI holder.

What exactly is modified? Just the drive adapter, or the entire VDI shank?

Does anyone have a picture they could post up of the coupling?

Thanks,

We got a request from engineering to knurl some parts on our Mazak. I know there is not a Mazatrol function that will do this. I am guessing some sort of Mazatrol manual program, but??? Any proven manual program would be helpful. 1.125 od by 4 inches long. It is relatively soft annealed steel.

Trying to align X and Y on a QTN 250-2 MSY

Hello

I am trying to get my X and Y back into alignment, and could use some feedback on the results i am seeing.

Generally i make manifolds that have a port centered on the end. I T-drill a .5 diameter hole in the end of the part, Then use a live tool EDGE with a port cutter to cut the o-ring profile, and finally another live tool to thread mill the port. What i am getting lately is that the T-drill seems to be on center, but the live tools are not. I have touched off all tools on X.

Today i put my dial indicator ( chucked in a Jacobs chuck) into the chuck jaws, and swept a boring bar pocket. The maintenance manual states that Machine X coord should be -15.75 for a boring bar hole to be centered at X0. I enabled Yt motion , and adjusted X and Y until i got an acceptable TIR (i called .002 good enough).

I ended up with : X -15.781 and Y -.005 .

So X seems to be out quite a bit, at .031 (diameter) , and Y is out , but not as bad.

Where do i go from here?

On a side note, i put my other 2 boring bar holders in the same turret spot, and swept them, and my TIR was .012 for both of them. Then i put the original holder back in, re swept that, and got the same .002 result that i did the first time :scratchchin:

EDIT:
Now ive put a 1 inch diameter bar in the original holder, and touched it off on X with the tool eye. This gives me a tool offset of -15.776 , which is neither the -15.750 that the manual states, OR the -15.781 that i found in my Coax test...

Need opinions on old mazak quick turn10 t2 control

Hello i have a mazak 1984 qt 10 with a t2 control i bought the machine for $4000.00 thinking it might be fun to learn cnc lathe work . Machine has been very difficult to make money with because it keeps breaking down. fortunately i have a friend who is kinda of good diagnosing electrical problems but im kinda at stoping point of putting money into her. We think the spindle drive or spindle motor is going out because it keeps on blowing one of the transistors 2DI150D-050 GTR FUJI. we have other issues like the turret does not index correctly after 3-4 hours of running. I guess my question is with this old of a machine do u think its work throwing money at it IE mazak wants around $3000 to repair spindle drive ? plus paying a mazak independent tech $150 an hour to track down why the turret is not indexing correctly . I really like the mazatrol control so if i were to buy a newer machine what year mazak is to old ??

thanks

Joe
