SQT 15 MS C Axis Overload Problem

Hey Guys,

I've had my SQT 15MS up and running for almost a month now with no issues. Today though I ran into a problem when using the live tool milling to mill out some slots. I've used the live tooling with the c axis before to drill holes every 90 degrees. When I tried to do a milling operation where the c axis would turn 0-120 degrees, the spindle would not turn and the machine would overload with alarm 24. I can see the c axis movement on the position screen, but the spindle seems to be fighting the brake to turn. I called Mazak support and they said it was probably something with the brake. I'm confused since it orients properly and in manual mode I can index the spindle with no issues. Any thoughts?

Thanks
-Dan

SQT Sub Spindle Barrier Problem

$

Hey Guys,

I'm running a program where the sub spindle comes out to grab a part on the ID for support while performing some live milling. My issue is that when the program starts the spindle comes out, grips the part, but then the turret doesn't realize how far out the sub is extended and starts moving towards the work piece on a diagonal and will crash into the sub spindle if I don't stop the feed. I tried to input sub spindle chuck info, but I don't think this will fix it. Is there a parameter for controlling how the turret approaches the work piece?

Thanks,
Dan

SQT-250 MY Help with Inscribing and Multi-axis Programming

Im still learning mazatrol TPlus on our SQT-250 MY Lathe, but I can machine and write programs at the controller in 2d well enough. None of the parts we machine are complex enough to justify buying all new cad cam software. All of the programming can be done on the controller. However, I am looking to generate text. I want to be able to wrap a serial No. on the OD of a part. We have Bobcad V24 and I have used that to generate 2d Serial No.s with our mills.

Any tips on doing this at the machine or for using this version of bobcad to generate EIA programs for the T Plus? Or perhaps you can point me in a better direction. We would be willing to spend money on software if someone has had success doing what I am describing on a similar machine and controller, let us know what you have used. Thanks!

Potential power surge might have messed up my QT20

Hey guys, was curious to delve into this situation I'm into a little deeper and was hoping to find someone with some experience with it. We came into the shop this morning and a couple of machines that are working off the same box had some problems starting up. My Mazak QT20 is also on the same box. I fired it up a bit ago, ran the warm up program for about 20 minutes like usual and then got into setting up. I was running a part that required some super simple ID boring, and at the end of the finish pass my $500 heavy metal boring bar went z rapid right into the jaws behind the part. I dug through the program to see what I messed up and couldn't find a single thing. So I restart my finish pass on that process in the lowest rapid mode, and when the turret was moving through space between home and the face of the part it made the same motion again - z rapid about 3 inches towards the spindle, then back to where it was feeding and continued along it's tool path. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm really curious to know what part of the machine a power surge or something of that sort could've wrecked. Thanks for any input you guys are willing to share.

(On one of our other lathes it seems like a relay is shot, that machine is still down. Also one of the mills that was on the same box was giving low amp faults upon startup this morning.)

Mazak H400-N Spindle Drawing.

Gentlemen.

I have in the shop, a spindle assembly out of a H400N. Its a Kentucky built machine, 1993. It was imported here some years ago. The spindle is locked up solid.

Its a 15,000 rpm version, integral spindle motor. The 12,000 rpm version should be very similar.

My problem is, the client has no documentation for it. It arrived second hand without the manuals.

Customer, has already contacted Mazak KY, with the serial number. They did send down some drawings, but they were the wrong ones. The scans I have are for a conventional cartridge, direct coupled to a servo spindle motor. This one carries the armature on the spindle.

I could really use a scan or half reasonable photo's of the pages that pertain to this spindle.

Its a rather unusual design, it doesn't have a face end cap to lock the bearing in from the front like normal. That appears to all happen from the rear.

Its full of hydraulic ports to blow the armature and bearing retainers off. It seems to even use a shrink fits for the draw bar retainer. I'll start blowing it apart tomorrow,

But a drawing would really help.

Regards Phil.

Newbie needs help with SQT15M 1992 T32-3 no power to chip conveyor

Hi Everyone,
I am the proud owner of a new (to me)Mazak 1992 SQT15M lathe with Mazatrol T32-3 control.
The chip conveyor will not run, I have checked for power at the chip conveyor controls and there is none. I have also checked for continuity in the cable and this is OK.
The cable plugs into a socket marked XCON 14 and there is no power at this socket.
I have checked for tripped circuit breakers in the control panel but cannot find any.
I have also looked behind the hinged door on the spindle drive as mentioned in another post but cannot find anything there.
Can anyone help please

Steve

Need help.... quick turn 20 T1 control some pendant buttons not responding

1983 Mazak quick 20turn universal lathe T1 control

When I fired up the machine yesterday after sitting for a couple of weeks. I started having problems with some of the buttons and soft keys on the front pendant not responding when pushed.
I powered down the machine and reset the plugs and connectors associated with the front pendant. This did not seem to help.
Upon further inspection. The buttons and soft keys all work for about a minute after power up.
But then stop responding.

We actually did get it to run the job we needed and it runs fine in automatic.
But you are unable to do any modifications to tool offsets or programs after about 1 minute after turning on the control.

any thoughts on which board handles the operator inputs? I thougth before sending in for repair I would do some troubleshooting on my own.

PFH-4800 throwing tools occasionally.

I have had a long term problem with my '02 PFH-4800 HMC occasionally dropping tools. It happens anywhere from once a month to six months. Of course these are the hardest ones to find.

It started about 5 years ago and we have had two service guys look at it three times and never really found a problem.

When it happens:

It always drops the tool that just ran.

I have seen it drop tools for 4 out of 8 changes once. Always one end of the arm. But this happened only once and I switched holders after the second time and yet it dropped the third and fourth time with a different holder.

The parts and function on both ends of the arm seem exactly the same, spring pressure and action seem the same.

On the two occasions I have actually seen it drop the tool it just fell out right as the arm was grabbing it.

We found the arm timing was off and adjusted it over a year ago.

If we simply grease the plungers/grippers it will work fine for one to six months. We have never found binding or any evidence of needing greasing but it always fixes it. Again, this happens so rarely it is really hard to prove anything.

The seals on the grippers are worn and need replacing but the bronze bushings seem fine without any galling. The grippers are in the same state of wear and seem to be in very good condition.

It dropped two tools today and once again I greased it whether it needed it or not and as usual has been fine since.

Has anyone seen the same problem? These really intermittent ones are the worse I know.

It dropped my Renishaw probe once and thank God it didn't wreck it.

Joe788, you have a PFH, Have you seen anything like this?

Thanks,
Dan

VTC-200B Leveling and Squaring

Is there such a thing as a procedure to do this on a VTC-200B? I can get the table level with a level, but when I start sweeping the table with an indicator in the spindle, I can't begin to get the base to twist enough to get the spindle square with the table. I'm about .010" out from front to back, and maybe .005" out side to side. I just can't find the right combination to make it move. I'm assuming that I'm doing something wrong...

Support for T-Plus Controls?

Good Evening,

I heard it through the grapevine that Mazak is going to stop supporting controls that are T-Plus and older. I've found a used Mazak lathe that has a T-Plus control on it but I'm nervous about the purchase if I can't get support.

Thoughts?

T2 Control QT15, Machine Parameter No. 4 Page

Hey guys, can anyone with a T2 QT15 give a picture of their machine parameter no. 4 page? It's one of the hidden pages (on parameter page, hit third yellow button from the right, type in 1131, and hit input). I'm recovering from a parity error issue and don't have my original parameter list. Any help would be appreciated!!

Tapping problem with a T2 QT10N -86

I have QT10N -86 that works as it should besides tapping.
When tapping 98% goes well but then suddenly it breaks the tap. (1/8" -28)
I started try different speed and all the obvious stuff like not centred, slippering tap in holder, larger drill then recommended etc.
When this is happening the tap is allways way to deep, like 60mm instead of 10mm.

For my testing I did this:
-Modified the ER32 collet in floating holder so it is impoosible to rotate the tap
-Marked the tap to see if it goes out of the holder
-Marked ER32 nut to see if it loosen up
-Made the tool go only Z axiz 150mm out and then X 250mm after tapping (to avoid snapping the tap if still in the material)

So what happened?
Run about 50 pieces then it pulled the piece out of the chuck and I had to spinn it of the tap 60mm deep.
The tap was still in the possition in the ER32 holder.

The only explenation I can think of right now is that it failes to change rotation from CCW to CW.
But shouldnt that give me an error on spindle controller?
Is there any parameter on the tapping process how long time the chuck should not rotate before it goes back?

Any other ideas?

VTC-20 extreme noob tool loading questions

$

We just picked up a circa 1995 VTC-20 machining center. I am a newcomer to the Mazak world and have some basic questions unanswered by the manuals included with the machine. The first is how to load tools into the carousel. As far as I could tell, the pockets are physically unnumbered. How do you find out which is the tool number corresponding to the pocket which is currently in the installation door?

Also, I assume a tool holder can be switched by hand with the one currently in the spindle. What is the method to do this?

Any links to technical info on this machine are definitely welcome.

Thanks, Jim

NEED HELP / Mazak SQT T32-3 C axis on Sub Spindle does not clamp

$

I have a Mazak SQT which while ago I had to re-initialize all the parameter, recently by a new job I notice that the C axis on SS (Sub Spindle) can not clamp on auto mode for a milling proces.
There is no alarm, the cycle start green light just stays on and waiting for the C axis to become clamp.
There has to be a parameter which has to be set or O series parameter.
I have no Machine parameter description and do not know what was going wrong.
Is there any one who had the same experience or is there any who can help me to solve this problem???
Any information would be appreciate in advance.
Cheers

What should I be able to do when feed hold is pressed?

$

Hey All,

Someone (Philibuster I think) mentioned that you should be able to stop the spindle when feed hold is pressed (would make sense so you can check a part without having to go into manual mode).

So what exactly are you able to do when feed hold is pressed?

Thanks a bundle,

Ed
