Higher millspeed on my QT10ATC

$

I bought an QT10ATC M/C T3 -86 a few mounths ago and was a little bit dissapointed at the mill speed.
My ST30ATC M/C T3 -88 has 3000rpm on the mill head but this QT10ATC only did 1500rpm.
That was a litle low for my normal operation, I soon found that there was 2 options when it was sold as new 1500rpm or 2500rpm and the only differents was a pulley and shorter belts.
I checked with Mazak but I think it was to expensive, so the solution was to buy standard pulleys.
Original pulleys was 69mm in diameter on motor and 130mm as secondary.
I changed to 79mm om motor and 89 as secondary. (Motor axle is 28mm and secondare axle is 35mm) and 3 SPZ260 belts.
That gave me a theoratical speed of 2508 rpm.

Next step was to masure the real speed.
I got 2547rpm mill spindle but machine still thinks it is 1500rpm

To get the correct speed the controler there is 2 parameters to set.
GR6 sets the ratio, the rpms on mill head at full motor speed.
A10 sets a speed limit if wanted.
So I set both to 2540 and now I have a mill speed at 2540rpm and I double checked at 100, 300, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 rpm and the speed on the mill head is correct.

OD grooving cycle #1 problem mazatrol T2

Hi,

I'm suffering with a grooving problem. Making a grove with starting 3mm radius start-x 80. start-z 10. end-x 70. end-z 10 endradius 3.
When you do check toolpaths it all seems normal it does rough pass and fine pass from left and right as it should. But when checking simulation it just enters in the middle of the groove as a rough pass and then stops without any message or anything. And it does the same thing when you run live it stops in the middle of the groove.

My overlap parameter U44 is set to 10. And this machine is metric so I'm not sure if that means 0.010mm of overlap allowed?

Can someone clearify this for me? I just bought this machine and its quite frustrating, can't find anything wrong in my program. And does the "toolpath check" and "simulation" have diffrences in them in more cases than this ? :)

200 Thermal Trip Alarm - SQT 18MS

Had her humming along nicely when it threw a 200 thermal trip(emergency stop) alarm. Control is on, machine is pretty much dead. Hydraulics, most fans, and coolant pumps off. Checked all breakers/thermal breakers and none were tripped. I can manually push in the contactors for the hydraulic pump and coolant pump and they come on fine. Chip conveyor was not running at time of error.

Did some searching and it seems it can be anything from a thermal circuit going bad in the transformer, to a GS1 or GS2 power supply crapping out, to QX84 board issues, to a fan taking a dump and shorting out a board. That's a lot of stuff to check. Is there any low hanging fruit I should go after first? Most of the posts I saw were pretty old. Wonder if any new issues have popped up since those. I'm going to start checking things off the list tomorrow.

Nexus 51c owners maintenance items to check out.

We own 4 of these machines and have had them for several years. We have time now to do a deep P.M. and cleaning on them. We have found on all 4 machines the grease hose that runs on the back side of the table and flexes with every X axis move is cracked and leaking grease. It is under a sheet metal cover on the back side of the table. You might want to check your machine out. Also there is a short stroke hydraulic cylinder on top of the spindle covered with a sheet metal cover. It activities the draw bar to clamp the tools. We found two with blown seals leaking fluid. Both of these are not real difficult to fix. You might want to check these two areas out on your machine.

640T Lathe Alarm 26 Illegal parameter

Guys, I have alarm 26 illegal parameter on my 640T lathe what causes this and how do I reload parameters if necessary? It looks like the battery died over the weekend so I am assuming this is the cause of the parameters being lost. I do have a backup floppy disk but I am not sure which files contain the parameters I need to copy over if that is how you do it.

How to activate parts counter in EIA mode Mazatrol Matrix Nexus 2

Hi folks!

After spending a career in front of Fanuc based machines, I am now tasked with learning the Mazak. I have a few questions and will break them up into separate entries here. First off, the machine is a VTC250D/50 and the controller is a Mazatrol Matrix Nexus 2. I attended Mazak’s school in Cincinatti, but it was very very superficial. My first question is how do I activate the parts counter in EIA mode? I found it in the Mazatrol mode, but not in G-code. Also, how do I reset the parts counter?

Many thanks!

Mark

Can someone educate me on "Additional WPC's" Mazatrol Matrix Nexus 2

My question is about “additional WPC’s”. How do I use them in my Mazatrol programs? I may be programming wrong, and will try to describe my method here. Say I have two parts (one program), one located at WPC-0, the other at WPC-1. To save time in tool changes I spot drill all my holes (both parts) then drill all holes at both parts, then go on with other ops. I first locate WPC-0, spot drill, then locate WPC-1, spot drill, change tools, while still in WPC-1, drill those holes, the locate WPC-0 and drill those. And so on.

It reads more confusing than it is. Is that the proper method or is there something simpler? If I have, say, 6 ops on each part, I have to go into my program and physically enter all my X,Y, and Z’s of both WPC’s (each time I set the job up). I am thinking that there is an easier way, say, by using those “additional WPC’s” and just referring back to them instead of having to redo (read: insert possible human error) each time. Like you would normally refer back to a G54 and G55 location. Make sense? Sure hope so LOL

I took pictures of the screens with my phone and can upload them if need be. One shows my program, the other shows the "additional WPC" page.

Many thanks!

Need assistance with "Bed Wash" VTC250D/50 with a Mazatrol Matrix Nexus 2

My last question (for tonight LOL) is about the "bed wash". The machine is only 3 months old. When it was first installed, I could have sworn that I saw that big "line loc" coolant nozzle behind the bed gush coolant to keep the area behind the bed free of chips, etc. I noticed today that it is no longer flowing coolant. We've had some work done by Mazak repair and I'm not sure if they turned something off and didn't turn it back on, or if an operator (deliberately or not) has turned something off.

I understand that that is supposed to be automatic when the machine is running. Is there a manual valve, or electronic switch somewhere that I am missing? Maybe a parameter?

Many thanks!

Re-threading on SQT with T-Plus control HOW?

I am trying to figure out how to enlarge a thread on the lathe. I am new to CNC lathes. This is only my 2nd day actually running a CNC lathe. Unfortunately I sold my manual lathe which I know how to do this on.

My first project is an internal thread that needs to be enlarged by about .5mm. I would like to do this on the lathe so I can learn. My other option is using a thread mill on the milling machine.

Another project I have will be more of a production run. threading the OD and test fitting to the already internally threaded part. I have seen some slight variances on the ID of these parts so I test fit each one when I have done them on a manual lathe. My question is can I thread them a little oversize and then make a skim cut by changing the offset as needed if I find the part I am fitting it to is undersize?

I am planning to take some of the Mazak training classes ASAP just need a few things to get me by until then.

Align turret on a QT10ATC (1986) T3

Anyone know how to align the turret in "Y axis" on a QT10ATC (1986) T3.
The machine does not have any Y axis but is 0,3mm of in that direction.
The seat for the VDI40 is new.
Is it possible to align turret or do I have to align main spindle to match turret?
That seems like a job that will take some time to first get it to align with with turret and and not tapper, then align the tailstock....

I'm a newbe to the forum and also Mazak. I just bought a QT-8 lathe and I am wondering if someone might have a digital copy of the service manual and wiring schematic for this machine. Or one they would part with. The control is a CAM-T2. I don't have the machine yet but need to track down a manual. The machine should be here early next week.

The control is not connected to the web so it doesn't know the real time. How can I set it manually? It's running 6 minutes fast and is very annoying. Especially at breaks and lunch LOL Thank you!

Mazak Slant Turn 30 ATC-MC

Hi....wondering if someone can help. We have a Mazak, Mazatrol CAM T-3, Slant Turn 30 ATC-MC. There is an intermittent problem with the spindle stopping when it changes gears (maybe 10-12 times a day). If you push the spindle in any direction it will resume operation. This problem can go on for a couple of days and stop for months. An error code "252" shows up but it is unrelated to the spindle. Any thoughts?

Mazak Matrix Pocket agreement.

Hi All,

This is my first post on PM. I appreciate all the information I have gotten here over the years.

Here is my question. I have a 510C-II VMC that the control and magazine pocket number does not agree. So the control shows pocket 1 but it is actually pocket 5. I'm new to the Matrix control so it may be something simple that I'm not aware of. Would this be adjusted with the MR-J2 drive or at the control? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Thank you in advance.

VTC250D/50-Mazatrol Matrix Nexus 2 Can I use the spindle probe to find G54?

Hi Folks.

I can use my spindle probe to find WPC's, but not G54, etc. I call up a Maz program, find my X, Y, and Z, write down the numbers, then physically input them into a G54. Thinking there has to be an easier way.

Additionally, is there a way to probe a bore, a boss, a slot, or a web either in Maz or EIA without using "measure" and physically inputting numbers? I've done it with a Haas, but not the Maz (yet).

And while we're at it, can we discuss how to insert a probing program into my EIA and Maz programs? I've got experience doing that with a Haas, but the Maz is a hole new animal. Say I want to probe the center of a hole (or a boss) each time before running the program.

Many thanks!

Trouble with G68.2 and rotary table on VTC800

Our machine shop is currently using a Mazak VTC 800 in an unusual configuration - the rotary table is unmounted and unused. We are currently attempting to machine a part at 45 degrees (in G code programming) using the B axis (G68.2 command) - however we are having an issue with the Y position of the machining being out by around 1mm.

I have played around with a number of the parameters involving the rotary axes (the K parameters) and I've come to the conclusion that the centre of rotation for the G68.2 command is being offset by an unknown amount. Presumably because of the rotary table.

The parameters in question are:

K117 - reading the documentation, this parameter should be set to a value of 12 (Rotary table on bed, and B axis). By changing this to a value of 32 (rotary table mounted vertically), i managed to get rid of the Y axis weirdness. But Having this at 32 means that we cant tilt our workplane 45 degrees in the other direction.

K113 - The default for this is 2, I have tested with it set to both 2 and 1 and I think 2 is the option I should be using.

So I think that there may be a parameter somewhere controlling the rotation, affecting the C axis (rotary table). Is there such a thing? And if so, how can I correct the error considering we don't actually use the C axis?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks for taking the time to read.

Hi, our A16 is a T3 control and I'm looking for some details on alarm number 31 that is displayed on the tool magazine display as the alarm list in the maintenance manual only goes to 24. The alarm/fault will not allow any axis or magazine movement even when over travel button pressed.
