Hello everyone,
I'm having a pretty big issue with my V655 and its left me scratching my head. Sometimes the machine will throw itself into an external estop and it sites the Z axis. When it does (sometimes while machining a part, other times its sitting still) The axis rapidly drops about .007". I understand this is normal because the brake doesn't immediately engage. However recently, it has been dropping the .007" very fast and then it slows down and starts falling at about .001" a second for around .300" and then stops. I know that indicates a bad brake but I was wondering if the brake could be causing the estop alarm. All drives show an estop condition but the Z has a 55 alarm which is an external estop. According to Mazak this brake is tied into the 24 volt estop circuit.
Yesterday I attempted to get the brake off (Its an external) and I had a lot of trouble. I was able to get the top piece and then the brake pad off. After that I found the set screw on the retaining ring on the ball screw so I took it completely out and could only move it up about an inch, so I couldn't get the brake all the way off.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? If so, what did you do. Also does anyone have any advice for removing the brake?
P.S. My control is an M32
