I was parting some al in my trusting QT10 (w/ T1 control and a FRS-A drive) and the spindle motor stopped mid cut with a 55 overload alarm. The spindle at first would try to turn, flip over a few times, then error out. Now I can't even turn the spindle on and I can't key in a spindle speed on the op panel. The drive was making humming/whining sounds while not doing anything, spindle on speed zero.
On the main card I have no error lights, on the FRS-GA card led 51 is out and the manual says to replace the card. The machine doesn't make me enough money to spend $1500 to have mits refurb it (side business that has been out of business since my daughter was born, only have time to use it a few hours a week.) There are other things wrong with the drive, the load meters don't work, there are alligator clips jumping things out, some parts are loose and traces broken, but up until now any overload alarm has be rectified by replacing a fuse and I can't find any that are blown/tripped. I checked the power supply and as best I can tell I have the correct voltages on the correct places.
Does anyone know what the LED51 actually does? I would like to either try and replace the bad component, find a donor card on the cheap, or pony up for a VFD conversion. With so many other things jacked up on the drive I hate to sink much money into it. I read the thread about replacing a FRS-E, I don't know the difference between the E and my A. The iron is in great shape and it works very well so I don't want to scrap it.
