Storing VDI holders.
We are slow,So I am going to do some organizing.
What my question is how does everybody store their VDI tool holders?
Does anybody make a storage system like they do for CAT 40 holders?
Right now I have them on shelves laying on their sides.
I thought about making something myself out of wood with 2 holes one for the shaft and another for the locating pin.
Thanks,Bob

Looking for Horizontal - Mazak Model FH-480 with 6 Pallet Pool
Good Morning!
Looking to purchase our first HMC - also don't have any experience with Mazaks. The machine mentioned above is from a neighboring shop and they are upgrading in the coming months
Any of you Mazak guys give me some opinions or insight?
It is a 1999, FMS Pallet changing system, cat 40, 120 tools, chiller, Cool Blaster HP SCS, chip filter, conveyor, probe, manuals, etc.
Can I continue using Mastercam?
Any of you out there using this exact set up? How do you like it? What is maintenance costs like?
What is an educated guess as to what a fair price would be?
Thanks!
SJR

Removing Mazak HTc 400 pallets
Hello,
we are moving a Mazak HTC 400 (1998) and I would like to take off the pallets. Two pallet machine, it looks like there are a few ways to do it, the first being remove what looks like a retention bearing in front of the load station, problem is the bolts are frozen, there might be other ways, let me know.

HCN-4000 Cover Coolant
Hey Guys,
On our HCN-4000 I'd like to have the "cover coolant" running when its making chips. On our machine, the only way I've found to turn on Cover coolant is in the coolant menu (that I know of at least)... no M code??? Now this is not that same as "Niagra coolant" which has an M code, it uses a different set of nozzles. The cover coolant nozzles do a great job of keeping the covers cleared off and clean keeping chips from trying to get between the covers, it also doesn't splash as much coolant around so if you want to peek your head in to listen or see something you don't get covered in coolant. Is there any way to turn this "Cover coolant" on outside of the coolant menu? I asked Mazak when I first got it and they didn't have any help...

Mazak newbie (kinda)
Hi all my name is David Hahn. I'm going to look at a SQT18ms this week and got a couple questions. First question is the guy Im getting machine from says the C axis wont clock and it due to an adjustment needed on the PLG board make sense ? Second is I used to run a quick turn 10 with the T-1 control. How similar will the programming be on this one with the t32-3 control? Also any other things I should at before buying this machine? Thanks in advance

MRJ2 Problem
Hello Everyone,
I've got a tough one and I'm hoping someone can.
I am working on a Mazak Hyper Quadrex 150MSY with a Matrix control. The machine was powered off for more than 6 months and when power was finally restored, the batteries for both MRJ2 turret drives (this is a twin spindle, twin turret lathe) had died. With power restored, the following alarms were displayed:
Battery Alarm (Turrets 1 and 2)
Detector Malfunction (Turrets 1 and 2)
Emergency Stop (Turrets 1 and 2)
Once the batteries in the drives were replaced the battery alarms went away, however, the Detector Malfunction and Emergency Stop alarms are still present. I assumed that the Absolute Position had been lost in both turrets due to the dead batteries. I went into the MRJ2 software and sure enough, the alarm tab in both turret drives confirmed this so I hit the soft key and re-set Absolute Position in both turrets. I then powered down the control and powered off the main breaker, flipped on the main breaker and powered it off again as described in the maintenance manual. The main breaker was then turned back on and I powered on the control. Unfortunately, the alarms did not go away. I experimented with several variations of this procedure to no avail.
I can confirm that the parameters are present in both drives and as far as I can tell, all of the communication cables are in their correct locations and plugged in firmly. I also dug back into the old alarm history on the machine and can confirm that the Detector Malfunction and corresponding Emergency Stop alarms were not present when the machine was powered down months ago.
I'm stumped. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Gary

I have been using Ezatrol for years to transfer Mazatrol programs but since I have ONECNC for CAD/CAM I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it will work with Mazatrol? It shows most of the controls in the setup but I'm thinking its for EIA only.

ST35N going back together
Well, we've been putting the lathe back together and have been making pretty good progress. Waiting on an oil seal from Mazak so we can get the z-axis ball screw in. I have a question about the x-axis servo. Since we've had the machine, the load monitor meter has been really jittery. Even at idle, it will flicker from 0% to 60% or so back and forth. I hadn't paid too much attention to it before, but when we fired it up to check the x-axis, I could hear a kind of buzzing rattle noise from behind the machine, and realized it's the servo. It's just sitting there vibrating. The encoder seems to be working fine, I'm not getting any errors, and can track x position on the controller. Belt seems plenty tight. I took a stethoscope and it sounds like the noise is coming from the back end of the servo. Anybody have an idea what this could be? I'll try and post some pics later.

Alarm 24 circuit breaker FRSF drive
Here is a new one that showed up at lunch time on the spindle drive. So far I have found 2-30 amp C/B in the electric cabinet and 1-50 C/B inside the spindle drive and they all have proper voltage on both sides of the breaker. There are also a breaker/contacter for both the hyd pump and coolant pump and they check good. Also there are 3 fuses on the spindle drive and they checked good. A tech from Mits had me disconnect the motor leads and ohm them and they check good leg to leg and leg to ground and with the leads off restart the control but same alarm appears. Kevin mentioned to look for 100V C/B's, I have searched the electrical manual and the machine high and low and haven't found any.
While fumbling around I did notice at one point there was a transformer error on the drive but it went away and haven't seen it since. I did pull the cover off the transformer and check voltages against the tap chart and voltage is correct and it is dry all around the transformer and nothing unusual like a burnt or discolored area. The only thing the tech could think of was the AC reactor could be bad. Don't have a clue what that is but he did say it was behind the motor contacter on the spindle drive.
You may recall I just had this drive rebuilt 2 months ago and haven't had a problem with the drive since.
On a side note, on Friday the rear way cover (behind the turret) let go and I have sent it out for re manufacture. Although I was concerned about running the machine with the way cover removed, there is no coolant getting into the electrical cabinet or near the transformer.
Any thought or suggestions before I pull the drive back out and send it in?

Got wind of a few QT15's for sale - looking for info
Long story short, friend of a friend passed along some info about a guy trying to get rid of a few Mazak QT15 machines, and is kind of in a hurry to do so.
Im just getting wind of this as it was mentioned to my buddy, and he thought of me... and passed along what info he knew.
The machines are in IL, SW of Chicago bout 100 miles it seems. two 1989 QT15s that are hooked to power, and an 1988 that is a "parts machine".
No one there knows anything about them, and the guy that bought them never hired anyone to run them... they were bought, hooked to power, and sat. For how long? Dont know. And of the two powered up, the displays will not come on. Supposedly have all the manuals with them.
Ive been told a rough price, and that he the guy is in a hurry to move them, and might go lower.
Dont know what control they have yet, or much else... But I have been reading up as much as I have had time for just trying to get some specs and a feel for the machines. In the process I thought, maybe I should just post up here, and get some input from those that have/have had this vintage of machine and what thier thoughts were... major issues to watch out for etc...
I have read that proper phasing of the power supply is important... and wonder if thats why the monitors are not working on the two powered up machines.
I figured if there were good thoughts about the model of machine in general, that I might try and track down someone to go inspect them for me since Im a long ways off and dont know enough about them specifically to be qualified to check much out.
My gut reaction is "RUN AWAY" and not even get them checked out... but its times like this where one sometimes runs into a diamond that looks like a lump of coal.
Would any of you mind sharing your thoughts and opinions on the 88-89 vintage QT15?
Thanks
Wade
