Mazak tps function

$

I searched the forum for tps usage on mazaks and found nothing, so after somewhat figuring it out I'd like to post it so no one has to watch 20 minutes of dry cutting.

The tps function on mazak lathes is used to replace a broken insert mid cut and have it return directly to where you stopped it.

Procedure, insert blows out, press feed hold, press tps, press handle (manual mode) crank it off in one direction(x or z) , then press tps again, move again in only one direction, press tps, rinse repeat until you can change insert. Press auto, make sure tps is lit up and start, now it will mimic all moves made until it returns to position it was in and resumes on cut.

This is how it seems to work on a mazak qt15 t32-2 control, but I've only used it about 2 times testing it, if anyone else has any advice or more detail please add on to this, because for some reason this is unknown by way too many.

Cutoff Programming Question

To program a cutoff operation, do I just use a GRV #0 and specify the groove width the same as the tool?

I would like to do a cutoff at CSS, until I get close to the center, then slow way down for the final so I don't have the part go ballistic when it breaks free.

How do you go about doing something like that on the Mazatrol. (T2)

T2 Grinding on TPR

Hi guys,

I made some parts yesterday that had a bearing next to a shoulder, so I used the necking/grinding option 1. My finish tool was a VNMG.

The part was kinda longish (3 1/2) and skinny (.669). I ran my first try at .75......with a straight LIN line. I figured I would measure it there, then make any adjustments for the final.

When running a LIN line, it made the "necking" relief.

I measured the part and saw that it was getting pushed on the end by a .001, so I changed the LIN to a TPR with the according adjustments.

The part came out the size I needed, (a little skinny in between the ends) but the "necking" was omitted in the TPR finish pass.

Is there something else that I should be doing?

Maybe it doesn't do the necking on a TPR line?

Any ideas?

Sub Spindle machines

My question is for those who have sub spindle turning centers.
When I'm quoting a new job I sometimes find myself debating should I transfer this job or just do two chuckings in the main spindle.Doe anybody have a rule of thumb that they use that like maybe over 50pcs I transfer. It sometimes seems to me that it is not worth the extra set-up time to transfer unless you have a significant amount of parts to run.I know the complexity of the part will come into play also.I thought this might make a good discussion.
I've been setting up and running sub spindle machines for 13 years, but I love hearing other people's thought's and theories.

Im working on a mazak 200msy using t plus trying to thread mill using live tooling on x axis. Is it possible to have the x, y and z axis moving all at the same time? Tried using both mazatrol and mnp but no joy. Thanks

hello

first of all - 250-2 msy with mazatrol matrix nexus control

turning and milling aluminum exclusively.

Our company is growing rapidly, and with 2 shifts on the current machine we are approaching full capacity. so i am being asked some serious questions about whether or not we should buy a second machine... questions i am severely under qualified to answer, haha.

our situation is unusual. since all of the parts i make are consumed internally in the company, there has never been pressure to maximize output - as long as i was keeping up with internal demand, there was no reason to push for more. Instead i was more interested in tool life and machine life. As was the previous operator (who i learned from). so thats all i know about machining , is how to run conservatively.

heres some #s C-SP is SFPM , FR is IPR

.5 carbide drill, 2 flutes thru coolant, T-drilling a 4 inch deep hole C-SP 260 , FR .009

TOP EMIL with a 2 flute .38 HSS endmill. depth of cut .125 , width .25 , C-SP 750 , FR .0076

tornado mill a .68 dia hole with a 2 flute .38 HSS endmill. (.22 predrilled hole) PITCH .05 , C-SP 750 , FR .0056

thread mill with a 4 flute .496 dia 16TPI threadmill. C-SP 300 , FR .0035

Part off with .16 wide groove tool. Depth of peck .078 , C-SP 350 , FR .004

I'll stop there for now. these are some of my most common things i do, please comment on how it stacks up against any similar operation that you do. i'll probably put up a second round of numbers tomorrow. thanks in advance!

Alarm Help Needed !!!

Well, I'm finally getting around to attempting to get my Quick Turn 10 running. Everything is hooked up electrically. I need to hook air up to it (I'm getting a 203 alarm for down air), which is an easy fix. I have 3 other alarms that don't look so easy.

I have a #20 NMI Emergency Stop alarm.
I have a #22 NMI Memory Parity alarm.
I have a #131 Illegal Paramter Data (M1-M12)

Any ideas on what's going to be involved in clearing these ????

Thanks,

Frank

I am working on a project in a Mazak 510C with a nexxus 640M control. Without going into boring detail.....I would like to know what parameter allows me to use M10 / M11 tool clamp / unclamp. I want to be able to clamp and unclamp a tool during automatic operation without actually changing the tool.....sounds silly I know.....but this is what I want to do. Thanks for any help I can get.

Just when I was starting to like this machine..... A coworker and I went to PM it a couple weeks ago. Looks like it hadn't been done for several years. The turret gear cavity was bone dry. After we filled it up, we noticed oil dripping from the front of the turret. After looking at the arcane parts book schematics (they're just AWFUL), we decided it must be an oil seal on the front of the telescoping shaft on the tool changer. It took a couple of days to tear it down. It's pretty bad. Looks like coolant or something got into the cavity and sat for a long time. The linear bushing's shot, the sleeve that rides in it has about .01"-.015" pits where the ball bearings dug into it, and there was a puddle of rusty chunks in the bottom of the cavity. At least the gear teeth aren't chewed up. Click image for larger version.

The aluminum cover behind the gears is eaten away be the rust. Mazak wants $750 for a new one, so we're thinking about re-using it. It'd be nice if we could find something to fill in the pits and keep them from getting worse. Also, there was a ball from a bearing plugging the drain hole in the bottom.

We're trying to repair the sleeve. Mazak wants over $2800 for a new one. I sent it in to a plating company, and they slapped some bumper chrome on, so I spent a couple days with a toolpost grinder getting it back off and cleaning up the surface so I can send it in to an industrial chromer. The coating was so poor that a good inch of it chipped off when we had it on the bench. Lesson learned.

On the bright side, we found out (I think) why we were having so much trouble getting tools to line up to the pocket. The small gear in the first pic had probably 10 degrees of free rotation on the shaft. We pulled the hydraulic motor and remachined the keyway. Lotta work, hope it pays off.

More Slant Turn 35 troubles

I've chased down what seems like a pretty significant air leak coming from under the X-axis to the micro-mist lubricating system. I've got the top of the shaft clear, and we are going to try to slide the X-axis up far enough to examine the ball nut tomorrow. Does anyone have a recommendation on how to do this? Our plan so far is to use a forklift with wood blocks at the end of the forks to push on the bottom of the x-axis to relieve pressure so we can turn the shaft by hand to the top of the axis and see if we can get access to the ball nut.

Mill shaft rear bearing play, 1996 sqt18my, T+ control

Hoping you guys can help.

We replaced a dead prox switch on the mill head which required a pretty healthy tear down of turret internals. The rear bearings on the mill head shaft (drives the live tool) have all the slop taken out of them by means of the index/live tool drive pulley being shoved against them and held in place with a bolt ring.

The trouble is no matter what we try, I can't get the play out of the rear bearings. If I push against the pulley or the shaft it's all gone. I just can't seem to keep it that way when installing the drive pulley and lock ring.

Any tips?

Also note the rear bearings are only a year old and are in good shape with correct preload.

I first started getting a servo 31 alarm when the 4th axis was in slow rapid. Then it started getting continually worse over the past few weeks in fast rapid. I am now getting it in a Y and Z movement. I have to shut down the machine to restart. I have the Mazak tech coming out today. Has anyone had this problem. Thought maybe if someone could enlighten me I could save some trouble shooting time. Thanks

I need help!!! I am trying to write a post processor for a customer that is doing 4 axis wrapping. I've figured out the rotary motion is ABS, and I have the rotary clamp/unclamp code so making some progress. The client is saying that the motion on the machine is very jerky. Are there codes to put the machine in constant velocity, or out of exact stop.

What would be causing the motion to be jerky. It is posted with linear interpolation.....

Integrex 30Y

Hello all. I'm considering purchase of a used Integrex 30y 1996 vintage. The machine is coming from a satellite component manufacturer so it doesn't seem to have had heavy use . our main business is gear manufacturing so we would use it to turn gear and pinion blanks most of which have keyways and bolt hole patterns. I am scared silly that this may be an expensive machine to repair if something goes wrong. Just the swivel head looks expensive and complicated.Anybody have any experience with this machine especially from a reliability point of view? They are asking $67000 for it which seems like the going rate from what I've been able to glean off the net. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Andre
