Matrix Nexus - How to Teach Back-Facing Tools?

$

Greetings. I have a problem with tools that are too long to measure with the tool eye. In other words, I have to "teach" the tools. I did this with the forward-facing tools, no problem but when I try to teach the Backwards-facing tool in the sub-spindle (in the same tool slot) it automatically goes back to the forward's tool.

So the question is, how do I teach the tool Z-length when I have two tools in the same slot? Thanks.

Edit:
To clarify what I'm trying to do. The tool marked in blue is the one I'm trying to teach.

Matrix Nexus - M358 Chuck Air Blast - Stopped Working

Hi again. I've used M358 "Secondary Spindle Chuck Air Blast" in other programs without any problems but now it's not making the spindle turn for some reason.

I wonder if it has something to do with having live tooling right before the M-code. Like it's locking the C-axis even during the M-code itself. If this is the case, then how do I unlock the C-axis before the M-code is called? I tried M312 "C2-Axis Unclamp" but that didn't seem to do anything. Maybe it's a different M-code I'm missing?

Or maybe it's something completely different casing the problem? What do you think?

Fusion 360 post processors for Mazak SQT100MSY and SQT15M

We have been post processing from Fusion 360 to Mazak VTC20B (M+) for couple of years and that works just fine. Now we finally started to test post processing to SQT100MSY and SQT15M, and we have a lot of problems. We can save the files for both, so no data transfer issues, I think even the drip feed works, but:

SQT100MSY with Fusion 640t = simple facing process + drilling. It starts the spindle to rotate, and takes correct tool and goes to zero, but then just stops, nothing happens, no errors. We are using the SQT100MSY post processor that can be found from Fusion database. We have been thinking if there is some parameters wrong, but no idea which.

SQT15M with T32-3 = multiple errors. We cant find any T32-3 post processors from database and have just tested what ever we have found. This I think we just have incorrect post processor. Anybody having the correct?

I can pay something to the one who solves the problem. So if your interested and have similar machines, please help.

And yes I know this post is not where it belongs, but I think I find the Mazak gurus from here :D

Palletech Required Tool List and Resource Check issues.

I'm new to Mazak. We have a 6800 II machining center with a Nexus controller. The programs are all written in EIA/ISO. The scheduler is set as "by part number" as is appropriate for our application. The pocket monitor shows all the tools and updates after the completion of every program.

On the controller I can view all the tool data but in order to get to the tool file page I need to go to the display map and there's no information there. Not sure if that's relevant but there it is.

On the FMS computer when I do a manual entry for the required tool list I enter the group number. The manual says to also fill in the Used No column in seconds. This is different vernacular to anything I can find on the tool data page on the controller or in the pocket monitor. I tried setting it for the tool life expiration time and for the current usage time. Neither have solved the ultimate problem which is...

Once I've added the required tool I can set the tool to expired via the controller (60 minutes = expired and current usage = 61 minutes) upload the new data to the pocket monitor, and even though the tool is expired it'll still send the part with the expired tool in to run the program.

Also if I go to the missing tool or setup tool screen on the FMS computer the all the tools in the machine show up in the Unused column including the tool I set up as a required tool for a part.

It feels like I'm missing a simple step but I've combed through the manual and can't figure it out. Any advice is much appreciated.

Also, I made sure all the parameters for the FMS matched the recommended parameters as per the palletech manual.

Quick Turn 250 - Mazatrol 640T control - EIA/ISO enable

Good afternoon all,

I am working on offline programming for my shop (new to cad/cam) and I do not have the EIA/ISO option enabled on my controller. I can load a program but it will not run it. Alarm reads "151 NO EIA/ISO OPTION". If I go to program a new workpiece, I do not have any option besides MAZATROL for programming.

Is there a parameter I can change to enable this? If I need some other info to help, please let me know.

Thanks

In the market for turning center

I'm looking for a reasonably priced turning center for my home shop, I'm considering something like a qt or sqt. I don't know a ton about Mazak model numbers or comparables but those have caught my eye and would fit nicely in my space.

How user friendly is the mazatrol controller? I've operated a Haas turning center in the past, but never programmed a ton. I do a lot of conversational milling, but I'd like to get more proficient with cad/cam in the future.

What are some models to stay away from, red flags or selling points for some late 90's to early-mid 2000's mazaks?

Thanks in advance

T32-B can you program a drill to do another process as a boring bar

Hi

I have a Hyundai QT15n with Mazatrol T32-B

There has been a few times recently when I’ve drilled a hole using a big 35mm u drill then had to bore it out to 100mm and it would be great if I could bore it out with the U drill to save taking up another holder with a boring bar

On these older controls can you program 2 separate operations using the same tool number somehow like you can on newer machines ?

So have op1, drill, tool 1
And then op2, bore, tool 1

Thanks
Marc

Integrex - work with second spindle

Hello guys,

We used G68.5 to turn the head, but it doesn’t want to work with the secondary spindle.

To rotate the secondary spindle we need G110c2 (for example with a spindle of 180 degrees)

And if both of them are in the program - the machine writes an error.

Can the part be machined at a 45' angle on the secondary spindle? Or only 90 and 180?

Machine is Integrex III SY, CNC is Mazatrol 640MT. Trying to fix post-processor of our CAM system.

Thank you.

INTEGREX 200 II SY simultaneous 5 axis control option

Hello to all,

This is my first post on this forum, please be understanding.
I`m from Poland, so my english language may not be perfect.

Let me ask you, if I have "simultaneous 5-axis control" option disabled on machine, so it means that I can`t move XYZBC axis at the same time?.

I`m not interested G43.4/G43.5, NC code from postprocessor will be adjust to this machine (rotary axis offsets and other things).

So in this case should I add this option ?

I wonder why move axis xyzbc at the same time is option?

QT28 T2 control won't go into ready state

So our QT28 had a control issue, had it sent into Mits to get fixed, 7 weeks later we get it back and reinitialized. It will now power up but won't come into ready state but there are no errors showing. Mits best guess is that they didn't put all of the jumper settings back correctly, of course I don't have any documentation of what they were previously and I haven't been able to get that info out of Mits. I have gone thru parameters multiple times and tried playing with a few jumper settings without much progress.

Anyone have any ideas on other things to check?

Mazak 640 T Nexus Tool Eye Calibration

Hi, I have just bought a 2004 QT - 100 Nexus 640 T Lathe.
The machine has been in storage for 12 years and has super low hours.3200 hours only, with known history.
Everything seems perfect, and performs like new.
The tool eye X measurement is out by .22mm on diameter, and was compensated
by previous owner by tool offsets.
I want to re calibrate it but i,m not sure which parameter to use, i have all books inc parameter lists.
Ive found the section about the tool eye but not 100 % sure how to adjust
the settings.
Looking forward to hearing from someone who has done this.

ATC Persistent Error

$

Good afternoon everyone, and thank you ahead of time =)

I have a Mazak PFH - 5800 with Mazatrol 640M 80 tool unit cell, which is giving me fits. There is a persistent code, 304 (F104) ATC Arm Position Malfunction, that the operating manual describes as coming in when the ATC is stopped outside of its intended position and/or the cycle has not completed after +10 seconds from when the control anticipates. (This is in the error list on page 2-6)

There is a recovery procedure of course, which in quick steps involves Home 1, Machine menu, ATC Maint, MF1+ATC Ready, selecting locations and basically telling the ATC where it is again. I have performed this procedure a few times and the error remains after the cell attempts to start up again; it simply returns after about a minute. The thing which is weird is that I can jog it through a complete tool change cycle, CW or CCW, and it picks up its proper location at 65 and 180 degrees either way. I am confused: if the ATC drive encoder were incorrect, I should think it wouldn't give me the pink indications on the HMI when jogging through the rotations. I do not see anywhere that a door position switch could be located that might be causing it to think it were blocked (for the ATC door, not the operating door) and in the operating manual, no signal line is specified for error code 304 to be picked up by anything, which would make me think it *was* the encoder unless the ATC has like a cam sensor or something internally? Obviously something is telling it that the ATC isn't where it wants to be to remain safe, and it isn't allowing automatic operation out of an abundance of caution - I just can't imagine what that input might be from here.

Any thoughts are appreciated, and I hope your week has been and remains well all around. Cheers, Owl

Macro needed for repeat program on C axis? (needed)

I posted this in the programming sections and got a couple of good choices to try out, but in the mean-time I figured would ask you gear heads?

We are hoping somebody out there has a macro made up for repeating programs(tool paths) on the outside diameter of a disk on a Mazak 5 axis mill, it is five or six tool paths that repeat 10 times(36 degrees per). We are using G68.2 so we have some free forms in Esprit, not really sure if that will matter?

Have a great day!

Have any of the gurus here ever done a Tool Eye alignment on a
QT-250MS with Smooth control.

I got roped into installing a replacement and getting it calibrated.

Parameters BA95 - BA99 seem to be the ones that need to be tweaked.

I have only done 2 axis machines without a sub spindle, last one was nearly 10 years ago.

Any help would be appreciated,

Bill

Mazak Mill multiple tool descriptions and offsets

$

So new idea here, the lathes are awesome because you can define multiple tool types and descriptions for each tool thus allowing you to use a tool for multiple different features (ie u drill for drilling and boring).

So is anyone aware of a way to do this in a mazak mill (M32, Mplus, 640)? Some of our mills only hold 24 tools and there are some cool multipurpose tools out there so it would be awesome to have 1 tool that could be used to center drill, chamfer, countersink and engraving (knockoff everready, works great) but other than calling it an endmill and having to program it that way I haven't come up with any easy options.

Mazak SQT10MS - 81 Spindle Speed Error, AL 23

$

Hello,

I have a Mazak SQT10MS.

It has live tooling and rear spindle.

The machine started out by giving is a few random alarms i.e. over amperage alarm,, etc. It is now failing completely with
a '81 Spindle Speed Error' on the monitor and 'AL 23' alarm on the drive.

While spinning the rear spindle, it does not seem to be the smoothest i.e. choppy. I can only get it up to about 500 RPM or so. It seems to be 'hunting' for itself and then finally gives up after about a minute or so. It seems related to the spindle RPM feedback loop. It is not getting what it expects (RPM vs Feedback) and finally alarms out after about a minute of running. I also notice that the spindle load is maxed out at about 110 % while in having this problem.

This is a problem with the rear spindle feedback loop I believe. I just had this spindle completely rebuilt 5-6 years ago. It does not get a ton of use and therefore I have a hard time believing that there is a problem with the rear spindle/motor itself.

While receiving the '81 spindle speed error' on the monitor, I am also getting an 'AL 23' alarm on the FR-SGJ drive.

After speaking with a number of techs and Mitsubishi, here is what have done and tried so far.

1. I had an electrician come in and 'MEG' the motor. Base on his results, he said that the resistance is balanced and each of the legs MEGG'd out at 4200, 4200, 3600 MegaOhms. It is his belief that there is nothing wrong with the motor.

2. I have a spare FR-SGJ drive from another identical machine I had that I am now using for parts. I installed the spare drive and get the same exact results. So, I think this rules out the drive.

3. I then used the Mitsubishi "FR-SGJ adjusting the PLG using DMM" procedure to check the PLG. First, I placed the rear spindle in open loop as it suggests. I am able to run the motor in open loop and it does not fail. I can still hear it (a whinny noise) and it does not seem like it is turning at the exact RPM I request (open loop). I ramp it up to 500 RMP and slowly increased to 3000 RPM. It does not fail. I notice that the load on the spindle in open loop is about 10-12 %. When I push the stop button, the spindle easily coasts to a stop. Sounds as smooth as butter when it is coasting to a stop.

4. While running in open loop, per the procedure above, I checked the PA and PB voltages on the pre-amp board. I get '0' VAC at both points (I should be expecting around 1VAC at each). I thought maybe this indicates a bad pre-amp board. So, I swapped out with my spare pre-amp board that I have from my other machine. Same exact results i.e. OVAC. So, it is hard to believe that this is a problem with the pre-amp board.

5. I dug into the machine a little deeper and spotted the very fine tooth gear and the PLG end-coder that is doing the counting. It was extremely dirty as well as the gear teeth had some crude in them. I clean the gear teeth and the end-coder/sensor. A check of the gap shows it at about .007" which is about where it should be. I fired the machine up again and I still have the same results i.e. '81 Spindle Speed Error', 'AL 23' and substantial 110% + load on the spindle.

So, now I am not sure what to look for next. I have not attempted to pull the end-coder/sensor PLG yet. Even though I can see it and clean it, it is another project pulling it out.

So, before pulling / swapping it, is there anything else I should be trying or looking at? I would feel much better of the pre-amp was showing me some sort of voltage that I could simply adjust with the POTS to meet specifications. But, I am getting nothing at the pre-amp board. Could it be a bad end-coder / sensor causing this? Is this why I am not getting any voltage at the pre-amp? Or, is something else causing this?

What next?

Thanks so much for your advice!

Mike

I think it was just a plastic bushing. Fits in the brass bushing. It looks like that is how they sealed the turret position for coolant flow. Well that bushing seemed to disapear. Anyone got a part number for it? I cant seem to find the data in any of the old bubbleheaded manuals. IS that just a bushing?Click image for larger version.
