Oil Groove in bronze programming.

$

Hello,

We have 8 parts that need a oil groove 40mm pitch by 1mm deep for one full turn, the groove starts in a standard groove then does the helix down to another groove, then from the finish point of that groove reverses back to the start if you know what I mean!

If We grind a tool with a lead angle to do the groove toward the chuck then grind another tool with the reverse lead angle to cut from the chuck end to the start, if you program the two as threads where the second groove starts at the same point as the first groove finishes, will it actually start the second groove where the first terminates? as in the same point.

this is in a sqt200 by the way.
Cheers...

SQT18 MS Issues

No better time than the current for my first post!
Might as well give a small intro.... I think I may be here a while.
Please see bolded text for issues.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer by degree, but a small business owner and "machinist" by trade.
Was trained by a German tool and die maker for a couple years while pursuing my degree, then worked for a 'high dollar' CNC facility after graduating.
German man retired while I was still in school and with his consent, some customers and basic machines (side work for those puppies) found their way over to my shop.
Skip forward a couple years, graduation, CNC facility for a few months, owner failed to deliver on some promises... blah blah.

Well here I now sit with a new to me SQT18 MS with a T32-3 control, refurbished from a machine dealer, not working properly and a whole lot of jobs waiting for it.

Here are my issues.

1. Draw tube was completely clogged with 30"+ of hardened gunk.
Had to remove cylinder actuator to pull tube from back of machine as the sub-spindle got in the way of pulling it out of the front.
Cleaned everything, rebuilt chuck, etc., put it all back together.
My issue is now whether the chuck is open or closed, the machine thinks it is open.
I adjusted the position sensors to no avail.
I went into the R49 parameter and changed Bit1 to 0 to use the internal timer rather than the sensors, still no good.
My service guy, the Mazak technicians, and I are now at a stand still.
Anything you may know about??

2. I can not for the life of me, get a good finish on my bores. It sounds and looks like the tools are rubbing.
I checked the turret and of course that was aligned wrong.
Loosened the bolts behind the mill knuckle, proceeded with gentle nudges from a 12lb sledge, couldn't get better than .002" TIR.
I can't even get a good enough bore in my soft jaws to hold a bar to check head stock alignment.
Boring bars are brand new Sandvik with flats on both sides. No real adjustment in those.
Even when setting up offsets with the tool eye, the inserts looked off center.
I am out of ideas.

3. A vast majority of my parts need part numbers engraved on their face.
I am set with the live tooling holders, however this machine did not come with the EIA option.
I found a program, CNC Write, that can spit out a G Code for me, but I have no idea how to input that or use standard Mazatrol to do such an operation.

That was rather long winded, but I appreciate any and all help you can provide.
I have a few new customers expecting parts on Monday and I do NOT want to let them down.

Mazak QT15 turret hydraulic leak

So Now that I have the Mazak running, It has developed a horrible hydraulic leak from the turret, looks like whatever oring or whatever is behind the tool mounting area that seals it when it indexes, is not sealing anymore.... I am going thru 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid every 5 hours of operation so it is really bad. It looks like there is a single nut in the middle of the turret to take it apart? is this right or left hand thread? for anybody who has had this problem before, what parts am I going to need to fix it? anybody have any insight or tips to repair it would be greatly appreciated.

As always, thanks in advance for any help!

Npt tapping on a Mazak mill

Just figured out today that Mazatrol on an M32, M2, and 510CII uses ISO pipe tap threads, IE 1/4-18 SAE is programed at a feed of 19 TPI instead of 18. 1/8-27 is a programed feed of 28 TPI. Watch that folks! Change the feed in the Mazatrol program. Rrigid tap is Rigid tap on Mazatrol.

Main spindle and live tooling at same time SQT250MY -640T

Is there anyway to run the main spindle and the live tool at the same time on a Mazak SQT250MY with a 640T control? I want to run a sanding wheel/brush in the live tool holder along the turning as the main spindle rotates. Not sure if it's possible to spin both at the same time, and if it is, how? Thanks.

Tool Change Position

Mazak Quick Turn 250 with 640T Control

Programming in Mazatrol.

Programing with Mazatrol.

Manual program needed to cut off part at a reduced spindle speed after the OD finisher is done.

Do I need to physically program the turret to move off to a safe position before the turret indexes from the finisher to the cutoff, or should the program recognize a tool change and move off to tool change position before it changes tools?

Alarm A6 on VTC-20B, wont power up

My VTC-20B (M32B) was running fine, then out of the blue shut down with a bus error popping up on screen, with what looked like a list of numbers that made no sense. Popped up right "thru" the numbers already on the command page. Now, my machine will not power up, and the red numbers in the control cabinet are "A6". I have googled and cannot find that alarm, and I have the alarm book and it does not seem to be in it. Any help greatly appreciated.

Washdown Hose On 510C?

What do people normally do to add a hose? Switching between copper and Aluminum is a bit of a mess right now, the copper sticks everywhere and the machine turns green in a few days. I contacted the guys I purchased the machine from, they sent a guy over that told me to put a basement sump pump in and run the hose off that.

new to me Mazak QT15

Hi all-

I bought some CNC equipment a year or so ago. I have the Hurco mill fixed and also the do-all bandsaw.

Now it is time to work on the Mazak QT 15. The controller is a Mazatrol CAM T-2

When I power it up, I get the power on and off lights. I also get snow on the CRT display.

That is about it.

I was told the Lathe was wired for 230 three phase, but today I found the disconnect cover. On the cover it says it is 480 three phase. How can I tell which is correct?

The mill I bought was wired for 230, the band saw was wired for 480. So either can be correct.

The lathe was powered down and disconnected for about a year before I got it.

In the back, there are several leds for the relays that are on.

here is a list of every light that I can see
-SAFT1
-SAFT
-EMC1
-EMC2
-There is an A6 on the servo drive
-There is a red LED on the power on for the power supply
-there is a LED on WDT
-there are three LED on IT, BA, and RBT.

Thanks for any help or advice

Sell me on Mazak

I am in the market for a new VMC. My main concern when looking is long service life. I have been looking at a Makino PS95. While I dont necessarily need the 33.5 HP of the Makino I really like the long life associated with the Japanese brands. There will be a learning curve with any machine I get because everything in our shop to this point is programed conversational.

We recently bought Solidcam and love it, but I dont want to be going to the office for every simple part.

Our background:
Close tolerance +-.001
Job shop with small production runs 50-200 pc
Works with mild steel, stainless, Al, Copper, Ti, and various plastics.
Aging workforce

I mention the aging workforce because I am looking for a "workforce multiplier". I would really like to absorb the output of the employees leaving without bring anyone else on.

We are going to look at the Southwestern industries LPM this afternoon to see if it would be an appropriate stepping stone. I get the feeling just by looking at it that it will have some issues with the way I'm thinking of running it.

tell me about your experience with Mazak. How is the reliability, ease of use, service, cost?

thank you in advance!

I'm getting my "new" machine delivered this week, it's quite old but in excellent condition (an ex-Mazak tech has checked it over for me). The machine has most of the manuals with it apart from a T32-3 programming manual (it has a T32-2 programming manual). Does anyone know if the milling manual was just a supplement or am I missing a T32-3 manual.

Mazak QT20 With T Plus Problem

Hello Guys!
I have a Mazak QT20 With T-Plus , and I have a little problem. You see the Revolver head is too close to the jig/chuck when it switches tools , and the drills get stuck. Is there a way for the machine to move on the Z axis to the machine's ZeroPoint, and then switch tools?

Sorry for the bad spelling, I live in Hungary, and English is not my native language.

Hope you can help me!

Mazak Smart controller

Just wanna see if anyone here is familiar with the Smart controllers on the newer Mazaks. What are your thoughts, likes, dislikes, hangups, benefits.

Looking to get new Mazaks soon to replace our mid 90's SQT10, QT15, and QT18.

I know the Smart machines don't come with a sub so we might have to get at least on Nexus.

Mazak QTN Nexus 450M II Tailstock Alignment?

$

We are trying to align the tailstock on our Mazak Lathe (Nexus 450MII) How is it done? After looking at the mechanical parts manual, we tried to adjust the center location by loosening the screws around the collar of the live center assembly, as well as loosening the two screws that lock the adjuster eccentric (top center of tailstock housing w/graduated markings 0-10) We can get the alignment on the x axis to 0, but can't figure out how to get the proper height adjusted in? Anybody got any input that might get us going?

Thanks, Dave
