Quick Turn 15 tool eye calibration procedure ???

Hello.

I need to calibrate my tool eye and I can't find anything about it in the manual. I don't have a maintenance manual with the machine, so I'm assuming it would be in there.
Can anyone run through the procedure for me ???

Thanks,

Frank

Mazak QT-8 T-Plus Lost Parameters

Hi,
We have a Mazak QT-8N made in the UK, and the power supply failed. Mitsubishi sent us a bad replacement, so the backup battery died a day later, wiping out the parameters. Then it seems the EEPROM was bad. Finally, there are NO manuals or parameter list or parameter backup. Well, not quite finally, because you can often get an as-built parameter list from Mazak from the serial number - but not, for some reason, if it was made in the UK. I guess we should have backed up the params before messing with the power supply, but who knew the EEPROM would fail as well as the power supply? No similar machine around, either, so we are looking for a kind soul who might be able to send us a copy of the paper parameter list from a similar machine, as a starting point.

We would be very grateful! Thanks,
Jed

Hope some one out there can shed some light on this problem. I get a 037 over ampere alarm when I move the Y axis but not all the time, some times I can run the machine for a while and then it alarms. So I switched the Y axis motor with the X axis motor and the motor is fine. I think it comes from the drive so I disconnected the Y :scratchchin:axis motor and bridged the thermal over load, the machine stays on no alarm even if I use the manual pulse wheel. As soon as I connect the motor and try the mpg it alarms. Do I have to buy a replacement drive or is there something I can replace on this one ?

Mazak VQC 20/50 ........ broke down again.

Man..... if I didn't have bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all. I'm still monkeying around with the machine trying to figure out how to set tools up in the tool data page. I still haven't gotten an explanation that I can understand on that. Anyway....... I try playing around with it this morning. I put a 2" face mill in #4 pocket. I indexed and changed tools a couple times with #2 and #3......everything works fine. I hit change tool #4 pocket, the drum indexes over.......and the spindle comes down HARD. Breaks the tool pocket, pushes the tool drum out of time and is now jammed with a #20MDI Alarm that I can't clear and I can't get the machine to move. Aren't tool changes regulated by parameters ??? If the machine has been indexing and changing tools properly all along, what the hell just happened ??? I was so close to getting this machine running.

At this rate, I will never get this machine running. It's been 2 years now and this machine has helped put me in the hole. The lathe I bought with this one was DOA and it's practically unfixable. Too much money to get it going. I can't afford to have Mazak come out now...... already trying to pay down a huge bill from the last time........they certainly won't send anyone now.

So I'm pretty new to the mazak world I'm doing a face groove with a full rad .06 wide Groover I can get it to groove just fine but the print calls out a 35.0 deg included angle from the face of the part to the radius tangent point this lathe only has the 2 options for grooving #0 and #1 the number #1 appears to have the taper move but when I add that to my pitch it doesn't change what am I doing wrong thanks

VQC 20/50B 4th Axis question

Hi All,

I picked up a rotary table with my 20/50b.

The machine is doesn't appear to have a 4th axis AMP although the front panel appears to have the option to alternate between the 4th axis and z axis.

now the questions...
1) is the architecture on the schematics symbolic of the function or is it hardware that had to be optioned in?
2) can I hook the rotary table up without the 4th axis? (I don't think so but Im not close enough to it just yet)
3) If I do need to have the 4th axis set up for the rotary table, has anyone retrofitted a 4th axis option and what's involved? (finding all the hardware would be the first issue, are there any software issues/ parameters?)

Cheers

Mick

360 spindle cooling system malfunction, SQT100MSY

$

Hello,

2003 Mazak SQT100MSY, fusion control, started getting "360 spindle cooling malfunction" once a day for about a week, just hit reset, no problem, wait for something to break? Now its broke, started by replacing the spindle cooling fan, made no difference. Took the drives out and cleaned the fans, all work fine, got a new spark arrestor no difference. The sub spindle is working fine, fan and all, everything is on the main spindle, now the second the main spindle comes on I get the same 360 error and then it jumps to spindle miss-operation, which it always did, spindle one fan does not come on now at all, it did when I first replaced it. Mazak says the spindle fan and the fans on the back of the spindle drive are on one circuit, 360 error, nothing in the book. I did notice on about half way through the day the cooling fan in the electrical cabinet is no longer working and when I power down spindle 1 cooling fan does not come on.
Cleaned all of the fans today, x lead screw cooler, hydraulic cooler, all are working fine. in the middle of the day I traded spindle 1 drive fans with spindle 2 drive fans(axial fans behind drives), seems like it made things worse, all of the problems are related to spindle 1, I am wondering if something is messed up in spindle 1 drive, the fans were pretty dirty and sticky, they all seem to be running at the same rpm, no unusual sounds. The machine is dead cold, all of the drives, drives, x lead, hydraulic, spindle 2 cooling at startup, electrical cabinet and spindle 1 are dead.
I guess tomorrow I will start with relay KA48 on the relay panel and more work with the multi-meter and perhaps get a call into Mazak for a service call. The electrical cabinet fan, no much to that, hopefully that will lead to a common problem. The fans were all pretty dirty, perhaps caused burned up something in spindle 1 drive, let me know if you have any ideas. The funny thing was that spindle 1 cooling fan($500 squirrel cage) was pretty clean, if you need one I have a good deal on one.

Thanks.

I'm trying to single point thread an internal 1/4 - 28 and the problem is when it reaches the Z end point it drops down in X so much it breaks the tool off. I know it's got to be a parameter but which one. I tried SU 41 and it seems to do it but only after it drops @.200 in X.

Mazak VQC 20/50B ALL AXES MOVE AT CONTROL ON

When I hit control ON and the emergency button is not pushed in all axes start to move in the positive direction.
I already tried changing the rectifier unit that feed the drives, also changed FX06 in the mitsubishi control, I do not have a FX31 spare card that works but it is going to be my next move.
If anyone has any ideas please help.

Thanks

My zero point is 2mm under correct positoin
I put down the turret and looking at clamping pins(on back side turret) and all screws & everythink looks like ok.

I`m studying manual i i thinking this machine dosn`t have any aligment option... Am I right?
It can be broken Xaxis bed?
What should I do?
I thinking about drill obround holes (look picture) and then i can rotate turret to correct position and tighten screws. It will be good option?

Quick Turn Smart 200

Hello All,
Newbie here with a question.

On the new Smart control, can you simulate a program like you could on the T-Plus control?
When I program, I can check shape and I can also check tool path but have yet to find simulation.
I used to love that feature for running a program and looking for problems before actually cutting chips.
Thanks.

QT15 Chuck Hydraulics

Most of the time the chuck works just fine on this machine. However, occasionally it will operate very slowly. I removed the valve block to check for debris and what not. It appears as the chuck pressure reducing valve has been replaced not too long ago. When I removed the valve, I found the little pointy piece underneath. It was kinda stuck in a hole with the pointy end out and when I touched it, it came out completely. In my opinion, it doesn't look like it should be there and it may be intermittently partially blocking my oil flow and causing my issues. What say you guys?

I removed the valve for the tail stock, and it had no such pointy piece under it, but the ports also look a little different, too.

Thanks in advance
Mark

Mazak QT20 no power

$

Can anybody help?
I have a 1985 Mazak QT20 that is in nice condition and holds tight tolerances all day long. Only one problem, the machine bogs down (almost stalls the spindle) with cuts that it should easily handle with power to spare. If I take a cut in excess of .050" (.010" per rev. feed) on a diameter of 6" + in mild steel, it starts to slow the spindle down.
I make sure the 2 speed gearbox is in low gear, the belts are tight and not slipping and I have had the Spindle Drive re-built thinking that was the problem. No change in performance.
I am confident this machine should do much more as I also have a 1985 QT10 that I can push hard on diameters up to the maximum capacity of the machine (around 10").
The little QT10 will keep going to 80% on the load meter and beyond. The QT20 begins to stall around 30-35% on its load meter. Does anyone have an idea of what the problem could be?
As you have guessed, I'm a fan of the old box way Mazak iron, I just want to know if this machine is is repairable or ready to be turned into manhole covers.
Thanks for any help,

MAZAK VTC 16A Spindle problem.

Hello all, love reading the forums.

Just had a spindle repaired, after installing it and running for few days noticed some noise so first thing i check was runout and end play and all bolts.
Runout is fine but when i unclamp a tool the spindle drops .003 after clamp it returns to "0"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU3PQhrmdHw

Have a question to anyone that owns a Mazak VTC 16A 16B or 16C. Would anyone check if their spindle drops when you unclamp a tool.

Thanks in advance.

Adam

Which MAZAK

There is a machine shop close by that will be selling two of his Mazak lathes soon. One is a Mazak quick turn 20. And the other is a Mazak quick turn 200hp. He said he will show me how to run the machine and include enough tooling to get started. They are using the machines currently. So I have to decide which one will best fit my needs. I like the thought of the smaller quick turn 200, but It seems like everyone always says you will regret getting the smaller machine. The price is supposed to be the same for either machine. Everything looks really clean on both machines. Any thoughts appreciated. Click image for larger version.

Will parity reset on T2 control wipe everything?

I have the 22 NMI memory parity alarm and found the Mazak 0989-002 service bulletin to reset the parity. Will resetting the parity wipe everything off the control or will it only wipe everything if I also initialize the memory?

Thanks!

232 slideway lubrication alarm

hey guys,

I made the rookie mistake of not keeping an eye on my lubrication and i ran the ballscrew oil out.

Ever since this happened (early yesterday) i've been getting the "232 slideway lubrication alarm"

I can only clear this by switching off and on and re-homing, obviously this is killing my production speeds.

All of the lines look to be clear of air, i have manually lifted the little black knob bits quite a few times to pump some oil through and i have been running the machine for about 10 hours since it started.

I read in another related thread that it may be a pressure switch that's gone to shit? where would i find said pressure switch, and how would i test/bridge out/replace it?

Any other suggestions are welcome. feel free to rag on me for not paying enough attention to my lubrication system if you like too :P

cheers,
Trav

Edit: I timed it and it takes 8 minutes (almost exactly) from the time the machine is turned on until it faults out, i tested this 3 times and every time almost spot on 8 min.
