Live tooling? on SQT 28M with T plus

$

0
We have an older Mazak SQT 28M, and I have only so far had a bit of experience running it through Mazatrol for simple OD turning and boring. It has live tooling mounted on the turret, and our shop sales guy would like to start quoting some jobs that would be best done in one setup on the lathe rather than tuning it and going to the mills for slots and other off center work.
I can't find in our manuals any simple step to even turn the live tooling spindle on. I would like to be able to check the tooling before writing a program, as the one feels rough when turned by hand, and the other won't even turn.

Is there a straightforward way to spin up the live tooling through the Mazatrol T plus interface?

Mazak Multiplex 620 - Transport brackets

Hi guys,

I've just bought an old Multiplex 620 and I can't wait to move it across the country to start playing with it. Unfortunately the previous owner threw the transportation brackets away and they are nowhere to be found. I've given the Mazak rep in Australia a call to get drawings of the brackets, but apparently Japan don't have the drawings anymore as the machine is too old

Anybody on the forum still have one of these machine ? and would be kind enough to provide a sketch of the brackets with dimensions so I can manufacture my own ?

Cheers !

adjustments to machine to make a round circle

Hi All -

I have a Mazak FH680 circa 1996 with an M-Plus control and I have to machine a part via conical interpolation to make a tapered bore that needs to be round within 0.001. I am going to test if the machine is capable of this over the weekend, and let's say the diameter is out-of-round. Is there a way I can adjust for this to some degree, and if so how? I'm assuming it would have something to do with backlash correction after an axis movement has changed directions, which is probably controlled by a parameter. I do not have the parameter book for this machine, which sucks. Anyway, if anyone knows anything about this and could give me some tips and insight, that would be great.

Thanks and have a nice day.

Hi all

I have a leak coming out of my load balance cylinder on the vqc.
It is coming out of the vent at the bottom and weeping out around the shaft at the top.

Are these a simple seal replacement job or do I need to be looking for other issues?

Chuck barrier moves?!?

I'm religiously using chuck barriers all the time now, thanks for the help putting me straight about that guys.

I've got a part that's taking a couple days to run, and I find that when I start up the machine it trips the chuck barrier on the mnp I have there for the bar pulling part of the program.

Two days in a row. I start the machine, home it, and run the first part. Works until the bar pulling fingers approach the chuck, and then it trips the alarm. No changes at all since I shut it down the night before. I adjust the chuck barrier a little bit, then it works? But why?????

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

Variaxis 500-5x II - parameter questions

$

Hi all I'm hoping for a little assistance here,

We have a pair of Variaxis 500-5x II at our shop and one of them has a slight annoyance in that when the A-axis is in its home position there is a slight run on the table. I would really like it if I could adjust it so that the machine zero gives a level table. I know that the machine has had a knock and that it would pay to get it fully aligned but thats not going to happen any time soon. Does anyone know the parameter that I need to adjust to achieve this?

Also while I am asking for parameter help, I was wondering about the tool setter... If I had a tool of known length and it wasn't measuring correctly on the presetter can I adjust this also to make it correct?

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've got the manual out for the machine, but the list of parameters seems endless and I wonder if I will find what I am after.

Thanks

John

Programming Question ????

Can someone explain to me why Mazatrol will not let me feed down a separate face, other than the edge face on my part ??? I have tried every conceivable thing I can think of and can't get it to work. Already have wasted 3 hours screwing around with it. I'm turning some hard parts....... and when I'm coming up the face of the part after turning the diameter, I'm getting a taper. I want to come down that face AGAIN (as in a facing cut) to straighten it out. Every time I program it, it says my sequence data doesn't match my process data. I tried to program the tool like it's a groove to come down the face....... won't do that either. What the hell am I missing. This machine can be so frustrating.

Parameters Maatrol M32b (Mazak AJV18 1997)

I'm trying to start milling machine AJV18 with Mazatrol M32b control, which has battery failure.

I was able to programme parameters of A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N.Q,R,S groups, but I still have problem with some points, which are:

1) In documentation there is a table called "parameters option" - I don't know where those data should be used.
It is shown on photo - it's the table in the lower right corner.

2) In documentation there is also "PLC parameter setting list" which has parameters R2100-R2109,R2110-R2537 (shown on first picture).
How can I those parameters (R2100-R2109) in PLC I/F ?

Integrex Tool Eye Sensor

Does anyone have a spare or an old Tool Eye Sensor that you can take a picture of the back of for us to see?
We need to know where do the green, red and black wires go.
One of our operators decided that he was going to take a look at one of the sensors that was stuck and when trying to remove the sensor for inspection he pulled it too hard an the wires disconnected from the board.
We just need to get the info on what color goes on what pad or get a picture of the back with the wires so we can see what color wire goes on what pad so we can solder them back in place, reinstall it and do all the sensor adjustment parameters again.

Thanks.

Red alarm 175 & 21

Hi all,

I have had an alarm on my MAZAK quick turn NEXUS 100-II MSY, which is a red alarm 175 (Description: Table unbalance check N/A) and after switching on and off again a red alarm 21 (Description: System error). Mazak has palmed us off to Mitsubishi and the engineer is here now but seems to be at a loose end :rolleyes5:.

I'm just wondering if anyone has encounted this before, they have already tried a new NC unit which after £4000 later didn't work :dopeslap: ahaa the machines 7 years old and been serviced every year and looked after.

Cheers any reply is a good reply.

ID Threading Retract Problem

$

Hello,

I'm having a retract issue after an ID threading operation. Rather than abiding by the clearance set by the U7 parameter and my min ID.....it jumps up 1/4" into the material and ruins my little bar.

The thread is a 5/8-18. I have .5" set as my min ID in the common data PNO 0. There is a boring operation that sets the minor at .568" just prior to the trouble. The boring operation is fine. My U7 parameter is set at 500. When the operation is finished the threading bar goes to its safe threading clearance U37.....which is fine, but then it goes immediately to .95" after that and breaks the bar.

This is the last operation in a part that is 12 operations.

I wrote a completely new program with the same PNO 0 header and just performed the ID thread by itself......and it works fine. It maintains the .050" clearance below the .5" min ID set by U7.

I'm sure I must be missing something.....but i've been looking at this for hours with no luck.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem may be?

Thanks,

Mike

DNC Interface Question on 640M Fusion

Hello all,

Getting an existing machine up and running. Unfortunately the optional DNC Interface was not opted for on my machine. What are some recommendations for my situation. I do most of my programs in Mastercam, and will need to link the the machine to my PC in a bullet proof, reliable manner.

Should I look into the hardware from Mazak?

Should I use one of the floppy wireless adapters I've seen out there?

I've read about similar problems, but I've never read about anyone installing the factory DNC Interface hardware after the fact.

Thanks guys!!!

Tool holder question

Hi all,

I have an older Slant Turn 35 that I'm trying to run a carbide insert drill in, but the tool holder I was using doesn't have thru-tool coolant (boring bar holder). :( The only holders for that machine with thru-tool coolant are something called a "U-Drill" holder that have a 50mm diameter hole 50mm deep. Does anyone have any information on this style of holder, or ideas on how to adapt the boring bar holder?

Thanks,
Aaron

Looking for any thing to watch out for or look for when inspecting this machine. Machine is a SQT 15m mark II year is about 1995. Machine looks really clean and in good shape. I have no prior mazak experience, nor do i have any mazatrol experience. Machine has live tooling, c axis, chip conveyor, programmable tailstock.
Any pitfalls to watch out for? things I should check?

VTC 800/30SR B-axis reference point change problem

$

Hi,

First of all, as a newbie at this forum I would like to say Hello to everyone.

I have a problem with changing reference point of B-axis on VTC 800/30SR with matrix 2. There is parameter "M16" that is "Zero-point shift amount" and, as I understand, it stands for the distance of which specific axis should move after reaching grid point on the encoder during homing the axis.
Everything is clear so far, but nothing happens when I change M16 for B-axis (except from changing the value in parameters list). I tried to change it:
- when all axes were homed
- when all but B-axis were homed
- when only B-axis was homed
- when non of the axes were homed
- directly after powering-up the machine (without homing the axes before)
- in "1131" mode with combination of above
What is odd - there is "UNFINISH ZERO-RET" soft button appearing when I highlight the M16 parameter. Of course I couldn't resist pressing it (also with MF1-MF2), but i can't get it pink.
So here is the deal: how to change M16 to get it to work and what the heck is "UNFINISH ZERO-RET"???

Best Regards

Mazak T-Plus Eia/Iso (G-Code) Programming Questions

Howdy Everyone,

I'm making strides in getting my mid 1990's vintage Mazak QT-20N running. I am, however a bit stumped with Mazatrol. Everything I've read seems to indicate that programming on the machine using this control is quite easy. Trouble is, I'm still scratching my head after playing around with it for a few days. I have a fairly decent understanding of G-code and have used it in the past to program my other machines. Plus, I've been using BobCad V26 for a while to design parts, generate tool paths and post code. At this point I have all my tooling, cutting parameters and, most importantly, over 100 parts already drawn in BobCad and ready to be exported to this machine. As such, I'm having a hard time justifying the time and effort it would take to replicate all of this at the machine using Mazatrol T-Plus. It seems to me my time would be better served simply posting my existing G-code in a format that can be read by Mazatrol and loading it into the machine. I have been playing around with the machine and do have the option of writing a program in eia/iso mode. My understanding is that this is simply another name for G-code. I've posted the code for a very simple part that I've run 1000's of times on other machines. I've noted the questions I have below the code.

1) You'll notice this post is in Mazatrol T32 format. I can have a custom post written by BobCad for T-Plus. I'm happy to spend the money to do this, however BobCad can't even tell me if they have written a post for this control. Is anyone using a BobCad post for mazatrol T-Plus? Is there really "that" much difference between the code above and that required for T-Plus? I mean... it's G-code, there can't be too many differences.

2) To coincide with the question above. I've got a full set of manuals for the machine but don't have a manual that is specific to eia/iso programming? Does such a beast even exist?

3) Included in the manuals is an M-Code list but no G-Code list. Anyone know of a location of such a list for this control?

4) I've used the tool eye to set the locations for the 3 tools called out in the above program (rough, finish & parting). I have also used the tool library in Mazatrol to setup tool radius and angles. With my past experience on fanuc machines, tool offsets would be based off one "master" tool. The offsets for the remaining tools in the turret would be based off the difference in X & Z locations of each of those tools compared to the master tool. When running a program each tool would be called up as T0101 (tool one, offset one), T0202 (tool two offset two), etc... With Mazatrol and the tool eye, though, I'm getting impression that tool offsets are a bit different. Since the location of each tool is stored in the control based upon the tool eye, does the offset for each tool need to be called input somewhere else in the tool library? I'm under the assumption that when calling up T0101 or T0303 etc.. the control automatically associated offset 03 as being associated with the measurements produced by tool number 03 when it was measured by the tool eye.

5) With past machines, to set the program Z zero point I'd home the machine and call up my master tool (T0101) and touch it to the end of the work piece being machined. I'd zero out the display and send the machine by home. The distance traveled would then be my work piece zero. This data would be entered at the top of the program with a G50 X0.0 Z5.360 (or whatever that distance was). With the T-plus control where the heck do I enter this data in the program?

Mazak SQT 10MS - T32 Control Lost Home Position on Sub Spindle

$

Hello,

Machine: Mazak SQT 10MS
Control: T32-6

I have been having problems with what I found was a 'sticky' homing limit switch on the B-spindle.

I was having problems with the machine b-spindle homing out correctly yesterday. I found that on the back of the sub-spindle under the way
covers was the homing limit switch. It was not buried in chips, but was very 'sticky' with old oil residue, etc. I got in there with some
brake cleaner and tooth brush and though I cleaned it good. I closed it back up and went to town. The machine homed fine and parts are accurate.

Today I came in, fired up the machine. Homed in the X, Z...waited for them to clear and then homed the B-sub spindle. It wanted to continue
on toward the main spindle. I hit the reset switch before anything crashed. So, that is the good news..

While in that position, I powered the machine down, pull the rear covers and way cover again. Sure enough, the switch was really 'sticky' again.

This time, I cleaned it really good and lubricated it. It seems to be moving really free now. Way covers have been re-installed.

Now the b-spindle is 'stuck' out about 8" to far toward the front spindle. I go to move it back only to hit a 'soft limit'. I have tried to clear
the soft limit, barrier cancel, shut machine down and restarted. It thinks the b spindle is at home. It is about 6-8" to the left to far.

How can I get this b-spindle back to where it should be? We have a spring sheath protecting the spindle on the front. I can only pull it back about
4" to see the ball screw. I have read in other places to manually turn the ball screw to return the spindle back to near home. Even if I could grab
the ball screw, how do I turn it? I don't want to damage it, etc. Also, I don't have much more than 4" to work.

It seems that I read somewhere else that there is a parameter than can be temporarily changed to over ride the soft limit? Is there? Which one? Then
change it back to its original value when near the real home position.

Any ideas or suggestions of how I can get this b-spindle homed back out??

I appreciate any advice.

Thank You,
Mike
