NEED HELP Programing Radius on OD ; Mazatrol 640T

I'm new to the site and wanted to see if someone could help.
I am having trouble programming a .210 radius on an OD with a .156 radius tool.
The machine is a Mazak Quick Turn 250HP W/ Mazatrol 640T PC-Fusion-CNC.
Right now all i can do is program a .210 wide groove that is flat on the bottom.
I'm coming from programming on G-Code so i/m new to Mazak.
Could someone take a look at the drawing and program and let me know how i would go about programming to get the complete radius.
Thanks,
DJ Deroche

MAZATROL pink letters?

Hi all,

Have a pressing question that no one seems to be able to answer....

What do the pink letters mean in Mazatrol?

I see them on the tool data screen...

I see them in the program in certain units....

What are they for? What do they mean?

QT-8 resetting soft parameters for homing

I have a QT-8 with a T2 controller. The machines batteries went dead while in storage & lost parameters, I have since got most of my parameters squared away and dont have any alarms on start up but when I try to home the machine it goes over the deceleration switch and just keeps going until it alarms out on a hard stop. I have been reading about doing a soft reset but can not find out exactly the process, so I am looking for anyone who can help me get this reset or the machine to home out.

The work coordinate system of my QT15 seems to be backwards

This is an '87 with a T2 control. I recently had a parity error which I cleared via the dip switch on one of the boards in the cabinet. I took pictures of all of my parameters before doing so to make certain that I'd have them in case the parity reset wiped everything. It didn't, and it seems like the only stuff that got corrupted was tool data.

However...

I went to run some parts last night and immediately found out that the chuck barriers were suddenly being recognized near the home position on the tail stock side, and programs were trying to feed from the door side of the chuck instead of the turret side. It seems like the entire coordinate system is backwards.

Any clue what might be up with this?? Seems like a parameter to me, but it seems like they all check out.

Thanks!

QT 8 Z axis drive error and smashed up orange rubber

Was getting set to run some parts on my 1986 Mazak qt8 with T2 control this afternoon. Had it running all morning tweaking my program and getting good parts so it came as a surprise when is starting throwing up a #14 Z axis drive error. I reset the NC and went back to homing it, homing works, both axis move just fine under manual (hand) mode but when trying to rapid or run the z axis with the joystick it would always throw the alarm.

Started poking around, called mazak, took of the covers and started looking around for clues. Then I saw it........Some stuff lying near the z axis ball screw. Fished it out cuz it was hard to get to and found some chunks of orange rubber? Looks like it is some kind of rubber bumper, soft stop sort of thing. It looks like it has bolt holes in it but it is sort of beat up.

Could this be causing my Z axis alarm? The absence of this rubber thing? I have been reading other stuff on the forum about some drives that can go bad and the Mazak tech was telling me about some ceramic spring type coupler thing that is in the encoder assembly that are problematic.

Seems like there could be many things that are causing this alarm, but so far all I got is the orange rubber thing lying in a pool of Z axis ballscrew oil goop.

Tell me something about this if you would be so kind.

Many thanks!

Joey

Hi all

Was working through trying to get the cnc to talk to the laptop and I ended up with it hanging in a transfer. Ended up having to turn her off then on again.
A couple of problems occurred. ... most I have resolved but this one has me a little stumped.

The tool data and layout is giving me stupid pocket numbers, spindle number 2, pallet and drum numbers in the hundreds. Quick check of parameters and they are good. Reset ram but no change...i can't change the data in the tool screens either at the moment. Not sure where to next. Anyone seen this or have any ideas on where to look?

Cheers

Mick

G43 not working with H#'s on M-Plus control

Our shop inherited a Mazak FH680 horizontal machining center with an M-Plus control from our sister company and I am programming a job and there is a tool that I want to use a length offset on for the Inside Length and the OAL length. On any other machine I would just use two H#'s, picking them up with a G43. So, in the offset table, put a value in say 73 for the Inside Length and 74 for the OAL. In the program, the line to pick up the offsets would look like so: G43Z1.1000H73 & the same for H74 when it was time to call it up. We have other 680's with M-Plus controls and that's what I've always done and it works fine. However, on this one, it is ignoring the value I put in the "Tool Offset" table (Type A Display).

I figure it's a parameter but the only parameter book I have is missing a bunch of pages and I haven't had any luck finding anything for this. All I know is it's an FH680 machine with an M-Plus control.

Anybody know a parameter I could try, or is it something else?

Thanks for any help....

Shoud I buy Mazak VQC-15/40 ?

Hello fellow Mazakists!

I found a good looking machine for sale. The model is VQC 15/40 with pallet changer and M-2 controller. Model year is 1985. Price is 8000USD, but the location of the machine is Europe so for me it seems to be a good price, if the machine is just in good condition.

I have been using Mazak QT15 with T-32 controller for years now and it's been working very nicely even it's a bit old. So I know a bit of Mazak electronics, mechanics and programming Mazatrol, but I have never used a Mazak machining center. I'm going to check out the machine tomorrow and we will have a look if there is some notable backlash in the linear ways or spindle.

What other should I look? Also, have someone used this or similar model with G-code? I have much of CAD-designs so I will need to run the machine with CAM-made programs. Would it be working well to post code from CAM and run the machine with G-code programs too? Is there something else you would like to say about the machine?

Prints for Mazak QT Toolholder Wedges?

Howdy Everyone,

I'm in the process of tooling up my new (to me) Mazak QT20N. I've been able to source all of the drilling & boring bushings to fit in the turret as well as the 1" shank indexable tooling. However, I have yet to be able to find either a source of, or prints to machine, the wedge type toolholders to mount OD turning tooling to the turret. Can anyone provide a bit of insight?

Mazak FH680 has B-axis index table but can't assign B-axis work offset???

Hello -

The company I work just got a used FH680 Mazak machining center (circa 1996?) with an M-plus controller that has an indexable B-axis (not a full rotary 360,000 position B-axis, but a 360 position B-axis). On the work offset table, there is no B-axis displayed, so I can't enter a work offset for the B-axis. On the position display, no B-axis is shown by the display of the other axes, however it is shown in the corner of the screen but resets to B0 when the control is reset. So, it's pretty much useless.

Is it true then that I can't enter any kind of B-axis offset on this controller? I have another FH680 with a full rotary B-axis and if I want to run some jobs from that one to this new one I would have to change the programs for the B-axis position which is ridiculous. Is there a parameter or something that I can't find that would enable the display to be shown and offsets to be used for the B-axis, or am I out of luck?

Oh and there was a parameter book and under machine parameters, L43, the description is, "Select showing or not showing of the index table on the position display. 0: Not to show 1: To show. Note: Set to 1 for the machine with the index table, or set to 0 for that of the NC rotary table. So, it's set to "1", and all I get is the display in the upper right corner that changes to B0 when a reset of the control takes place. So, is this all I'm stuck with? Can it at least not be reset to B0 upon reset?

I've attached some pictures for what they are worth. Thanks for any help....

Mazak sqt 10ms - "58 emergency stop" external alarm - help!

$

Hello,

Thanks for your quick review and any advice you can send my way.

Small shop here. We have 2 identical Mazak SQT 10MS lathes. One is a 1993 and one a 1994.

Machine 1 is working great and running parts. Machine 2 has been also fine.

Machine 2 has been setting for about 3 weeks without running any parts. But, as regular practice we fire the machine up, home it out at least every 2-3 days.

We purchased Machine 2 just a couple of months ago. It has not been unusual to come in, fire the main breaker up on the machine, and power up the control panel
to see a "58 Emergency Stop - External" in the lower left of the monitor. We have seen this many times. Is all we have done is power the control down, turn the main
breaker off, and reboot the machine. Normally, the machine fires up fine on the 2nd boot.

A couple of days ago, we started to setup a new job. The last thing we were working on was installing new jaws in the rear chuck. So, we moved the B axis out a few inches so
we could reach it easier to install the new jaws. No problems. The machine was powered down as normal. (We did not move the B-Axis back home).

Yesterday, we fire up the machine to get the exact same alarm as usual. But, now we can not get it to reset the alarm after a reboot. When we power up the main breaker, the machine
comes up fine. When we turn on the control, we get the alarm. One thing that I notice is that it no longer has that 'engaging sound' when firing up the control. I am not sure what
this sound is normally (hydraulics kicking in, clamps, ?? not sure). I just know that we are not getting to that point.

I compared Machine 2 (problem machine) with Machine 1 as we started each machine up. I stepped through it and looked in the back cabinet. Both have the exact same LED's lit, codes, etc. on the drivers
when the main break is turned on. When the control on each machine is turned on I get the following on Machine 2 (problem machine).
CONTROL
58 EMERGENCY STOP in lower left corner of screen.

Using Softkey, 'Diagnos', we see that at the exact same time we get
58 EMERGENCY STOP (External) and
128 EMERGENCY STOP

The NC Alarm LED is lit red on the control. I have also seen the MC Alarm LED lit red. Not all of the time.

IN THE CABINET
I don't know much about these, but when I open the control doors, there seems to be 3 main sections.
1. A Main Board dead center. 2. To the right of this a Freqrol FR-5GJ Drive. 3. At the bottom a Freqrol FR-SF Drive.

MAIN BOARD Flashes

F4 55
F2 55

I have read enough on these forums to know that there could be a number of potential problems that could be causing this.

Things that come to mind:
- Is there a problem because B spindle was not homed out before shutting down?
- Is there a relay that has tripped? Which one?
- Is there a parameter that has been thrown off?
- Is there a servo drive problem? Freqrol?
- Could one or more of the ball screws be stuck because of sitting for a couple of weeks?
- Is there an Emergency switch tripped that we are missing?
- Are there components on this Main Board that are covered with 'plastic' and are faulty? Transistors, resistors, etc.?
- Is there low fluid ?

Anyway, it seems that there could be a bunch of different things that could be causing this alarm.

It just seems like something is 'sticky'. It is not kicking into the next step of the boot up and alarms out.

Any ideas of things I can check would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You,
Mike

assigning programs on M-Plus and M32 controls

Hello -

Is there a way to assign programs for certain pallets on M-Plus and M32 controls, using EIA/ISO? I can do it with the Matrix Nexus control, using an M998 and an S number (for the program number).

If there is a way or if anyone has any ways to accomplish the same thing, please let me know.

Oh, also, is the system variable for what pallet is in the machine #51997 for M-Plus and M32 controls, like it is in the Matrix Nexus?

Thanks for any help.

Paul

Hello,

We need to remove the spindle from an Integrex 200-IV-S to send it for repair at a spindle service place.
Does anyone have a link to instructions or video or some sort of direction on how to remove it?
Also does anyone have recommendations on spindle repair places?

Thanks.
