So...I found a Mazak 10N on my trailer and its now parked at the Shop. :D
Short day trip over to Sterling Heights to pick up this little gem today. Seller estimated at 9k lbs, everything I could read online hinted at that same number. The riggers did a great job with it (they were already onsite to move the rest of the shop, save the 10N, to another building...Winfield's Machine Services if you ever need some local guys) However they had it wayy out on the very tips of the forks just getting underneath it and managed to tilt it back clean of the ground...both guys were like, no way, not 9k....
Fast forward, I get checking out the detailed manuals and there's an overhead crane drawing with the statement, the machine weighs 3.1 tons....didn't feel like 9k on the back end while driving my trusty Custom Deluxe...which is almost as old as the machine LOL! Perhaps the 9k is shipping weight with chip conveyor, coolant tank, shipping skid....etc? Not sure what they were doing in 1987 :)
A little miscommunication between seller and myself, he chopped off the input power cable before I could notate (photograph) the machine parameter pages. His thoughts are all is ok for about a week's time, but I'm working on getting the control powered up with an extension cord to do same just at my shop right quick....trying to sort out the transformer taps currently.
Will try to read as much as I can as to not be a pest but you should probably prepare for an onslaught of questions! :)
Riggers recommended this technique for chaining it down and I followed their advice. Not sure if I just damaged the threads on the levelers tho...time will tell. There wasn't much else to go with..
One immediate question is:
what do I do with the chip conveyor? 1) it won't fit in my shop...no way no how... and 2) the original OEM worm gear reducer is shot and gone. Seller had a Boston Gear reducer and a 3ph motor he intended to adapt but those are just loose pieces.
Sell on ebay? Scrap??? Looking for advice. I was thinking I would need to fab up a chip "screen" to take its place...had to make up one for my Fadal so I go that stainless punched sheet (3/16" punch IIRC) I got from McMaster and just folded up my own part.
Pretty happy with the package, full complement of manuals. All pockets on the chain save 1 has a holder. I guess I got 3 stick tool holders by virtue of the owner chopping power, and I got to see it run some parts the weekend before and ask a bunch of questions. Decent pile of chuck jaws. He even helped by dumping 95% of the nasties out of the coolant tank...I think I hit the timing just right...the seller had entertained trading/selling to a local used machine dealer but apparently the dealer porked him on another deal with loss of a bunch of accessories so he was looking to sell it to anyone else if he could get the same coin. The C-axis is advertised as NOK but I've had a few offline conversations about what the issue is..Time will tell if its a gem in need of a bit of polish... :D
