Changing x-axis thrust bearing SQT18M

Hi, after weeks of squealing and strange dimensional problems I finally decided to tackle changing the thrust bearing on our 1990 SQT T32. Thinking it would be a quick job but oh no. Has anyone here ever done this, I'm struggling to get the bearing out of the housing, surely it will come out from the front of the bearing housing without a major strip down?

Does anyone have a backup of parameters and ladder from a 200sy with Fusion 640 control they would be willing to share?

I know this is a long shot but hopefully someone has a set.

Thank you in advance.

Changing a bit code to ensure the coolant is on when an M8 is ran

$

On our mazatech FH-680 with a MPlus control, and also on our mazatech FH-6800 with a 640m control,

when in auto mode running through the program we want to make sure that when an M8 is read, that the machine will for sure turn on the coolant even if the coolant function may be in manual or turned off. I’ve searched the manuals that we have here to see if there is a bit number that can be changed so the machine will wait until the M code is completed, and I cannot find anything dealing with the coolant M8.

The main reason we want this change is because, if the operator turns off the coolant for one tool while its running and forgets to turn it back on, we don’t want all of the tools running without coolant.

And making a sub-program to check if the coolant is on is kind of out of the question because of the amount of tools and pallets, it would take too long to add it to all of the programs.

re: Mazak SQT10MS - 239 Milling Coupler Sensor Malf.

Hello,

Old granny of a machine having a 239 Milling Coupler Sensor Malf. alarm.

When I call for the live took, it attempts to actuate the live tool and then almost instantly goes to alarm. It seems to happen every time within a second or two of trying to actuate the live tool. (It was previously random in which once in a while the live tool would work).

I took the turret cover off and see the two switches. They both were pretty dirty. Cleaned them up and unfortunately same alarm. I had hopes!

Based on what I am seeing, one of these switches must be faulty or on the edge of failing. From my reading, it is my understanding that the machine is looking
at both switches for feedback. For example, one switch must 'make' and the other must 'break'. I am not sure this is accurate. It does not appear
as though these are adjustable as far as the mounting bracket goes. Based on my explanation above, it seems like like the switch is failing/failed or it is on the edge of the switch.

Does anyone know how I should test these to verify which switch could be bad?

I pulled them out so that I have access to them. When I start the live mill tool with them out, it is 'hunting'. I put a wrench in front of the upper
switch an nothing happens. I put in front of the lower switch and the alarm comes back. So, it tells me that the lower switch is probably OK. But, I am
not sure what I should be seeing from the upper switch. I would assume that when actuating the live tool that it is looking for it to go from a 'made' condition to a 'break' condition.

Any recommendations on how to test these to verify the upper switch is bad? Or, any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

Finally, where in the world do I find the proper switch for this? I think this would be a standard prox switch, but would be nice to find one on the shelf locally. If I replace one, I will probably replace both while I am in there.

I have attached a picture for reference. Thanks a bunch for the help!

Regards,
Mike

Need a Coolant skimmer, what to do with tank baffles?

$

I have an old box way quick turn 10 and im getting quite a build up of way oil on top of the coolant. Id like to add a skimmer, but this lathe has a bunch of baffles that will trap the oil? How do I deal with this? Im thinking of sawing a notch in the top of each baffle, maybe a 2 inches wide and 2-3" deep so the oil can make its way through the chambers. Anybody see why this could be a bad idea?

Maybe then I could add a skimmer to the last chamber and it would get most of it. This machine isnt used for high volume and doesnt have a conveyor so I could probably fit a belt skimmer in the last chamber. Any suggestions? How did people deal with this on this problem on these old machines? If a conveyor was being used there would be no place at all for skimmer, and the baffles would block it from flowing anyway.

Why are parts changing dimensions?

:angry::cryin::crazy:

For some reason my parts coming off of my machine are changing dimensions while in auto mode running the same program.
I have not changed anything in the program. one part comes out fine then the next is off in x and z dimensions. for instance one part came out correct .615 dia and all the features in z correct the next part was .04 larger in dia and groves were off in z direction. I shut off the machine came back and it cut one part correctly but the second part was off by a different amount. This is a small production run and no changes are being made to the program.

I am not sure if it matters but this machine has scale feedback.

I have no explanation. This is on a Integrex 200sy 640mt control that is driving me crazy. I had the control replaced and it took months to get it back up and running however nothing operates as it did before. I have had other weird problems such as soft keys missing at certain times, machine shut down and restart on its own, random tool indexing problems and some of my options do notwork any more.

Quick Turn 10n Spindle Issue

I'm working on bringing up a 1986 Quick Turn 10n/ T-2 control. Everything works fine (Servos, Turret, Robot Tool Measure Arm, Hydraulics, Tail Stock) except the spindle. When I try to run the spindle it throws the 20 NMI Emergency Stop and the 204 Spindle Controller Malfunction.

The weird thing is that when I first powered it up (I have the transformer tapped for 240 3ph), I could jog the spindle but do little else. I had to reset the parity using the #2 dip switch at the NC rack. Afterwards, I was able to run everything else but not the spindle. The Drive is getting power, I don't get any red error lights unless I try to jog the spindle (trying to "start" the spindle only brings up an "spindle misoperation" error, which is easy to clear at the control). I'm getting power to the FR-SE Drive boards, I'm getting the grean "Ready", "Speed Detection" and "Zero Speed" LED's on the drive.

With the exception of the Parity Error LED at the NC Rack that I cleared, I don't get any error lights and everything else seems fine with the control. I cleared the internal memory and reloaded the Parameters and I'm getting the same results. I have air pressure, I have the chip conveyor/Coolant/Hydraulics hooked up and functional. All the fans spin freely and run when the machine is switched on. The chuck is closed. I home X and Z.

This Mazak is new to me and I'm new to Mazak's with the exception of some light operating during my apprentice days. Do I have to have tools defined in order to jog the spindle, or run it?

I've searched the forums and I'm out of things to try. The motor spins freely, and I've gone so far as hooking it directly to a power source (after disconnecting from the control) and it run fine (and quietly).

Any direction would be greatly appreciated, I can post up any additional information that might help. I'm at my wits end.

Thanks,
-Bill

Mazak T-2 parameter list

Does anyone have a list of the parameters on a T-2 control? I have a QT-28 with a T-2 with lost parameters, even if you have a different machine but with a T-2 control I would be interested in a parameter list as a starting point. I do actually have a few of the parameter but am missing several at the end. I can post screenshots of the missing pages tomorrow.

Thanks,

i100s tool data parameter issue

Mazak integrex i100s.
using mastercam software to post out a mill + turn program
usinig parameters f91-94 to set what tool pages to be used for tool radius/ tool comp/ nose radius comp.

The issue is currently when running a posted program off of mastercam, the lathe tools will correctly read off the mazak tool data page for adjusting x and z offeset to turn the part to correct length and size. When an offset is put in the ACT-O under the tool data page for an endmill I recieve a 835 g41/g42 format error. when i change certain BITS under parameters f92 and f94 to supposedly allow for any T H or D addresses in a program under a g41 or g42 to work i can now no longer turn i recieve a different alarm 837 tool interference error. when ever BIT is changed to the recommended setting called out under the operating manual for the machine, the only way to get it to run is under the mazak tool data page, set all nose radius to 0 and set all actual diameters to 0 under milling tools. Have tried using both the tool offeset page as well as the tool data page for offsetting milling tools for wear, currently can not find the correct parameter settings to allow the use of an eia program and use the tool data page or tool offset page for wear on tools. there are a few other scenarios that pose different problems but this is the basic round up for now. in mean time currently programming how much to remove off of the walls in the cam software, so every time a counter-bore changes size due to wear i have to post a separate program.

thanks

I am looking for a manual and information on programming our sub spindle. Currently we just need to program it to come in as a tailstock after putting in a center in the stock. We have a spring loaded live center being held in the sub.

If anyone has a copy they wouldn't mind emailing over I would really appreciate it.

Machine is a '92 SQT18MS with Mazatrol T32-3 control.

Thanks!

Mazak VCU spindle, replace/rebuild?

$

Hello,

We have a 2014 Mazak VCU vertical machining center, 1200 rpm. Not a lot of hours on the machine was we never hit anything hard but it was purchased as a really nice used machine.
About a year ago the spindle would make an intermittent sound like a spun bearing, it seemed to be throughout the spindle vs top or bottom bearings but it made a real nice finish, end and side. It got a lot worse lately, today I noticed the last part they made had a bad finish, probably a 125 micro inch and with the machine off the spindle will spin freely but is sounds awful.
My question is is there anything in the spindle cartridge that can come apart other than the bearings?
Next is what is the best choice at Mazak, our spindle, tapper, run-out is great but I have to wait for prices from Mazak on all of the options? We had Setco do a rebuild on a Doosan horizontal a few years ago, they did a great job but on a run of the mill vertical cartridge I am thinking you just go with a rebuilt unit from Mazak if they will claim to have balanced and verified all of the specs to new condition.
Let me know is there is a standard path on this issue?

Mazak VTC-41M Stops During Rapid Alarm 357 OL (Others)

$

I am having a problem with the mill stopping during a rapid movement. Happened twice over past week. Have to shut down completely to reset.
Alarms:
363: PG Error z
362: PG Error y
361: PG Error x
357: OL (others)
333: fuse z
If you press reset 357 clears and you have 332: fuse y

I assume there are more alarms but can’t scroll them.

Any ideas? manual talks about blown fuse or mcb tripped.

No 357 in manual.

Good day.
I am looking to make a "simple" part loading to Mazak turning CNC.
I hope to find some information about how to command the machine from outside;
I believe that I need to send some commands from outside, like
door open
door close
chuck clamp

and to have access to some machine state, like
cycle finished

Do you have any clue?
Is somebody able to help me?
Thank you
